JOB TITLE:
School Social Worker
POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION:
Reports to Assistant Superintendent, Student Services.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the school social worker promotes student success, provides preventive services, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school guidance program that addresses academics, attendance, behavior, social emotional well-being, crisis intervention, family involvement and promoting healthy choices for students.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implement developmentally appropriate individual and group counseling activities to identified students to address needs such as attendance problems, family issues, social-emotional concerns, etc.
Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified needs.
Support and assist families in overcoming barriers to school involvement and education success.
Monitors attendance patterns and assists in implementation of attendance improvement utilizing county truancy program.
Collect and analyze data to support program goals.
Prepare and distribute reports and correspondence with parents and outside agencies.
Conduct truancy response interventions including community outreach and home visits.
Facilitate and support substance abuse prevention and early intervention programs.
Monitor student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assist with appropriate interventions.
Assist in the delivery of school health programs promoting healthy eating and exercise.
Promote school safety activities related to prevention and crisis response.
Provide parent involvement and parent education activities.
Provide agency referrals and linkages to outside community organizations.
Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the social work profession.
Other duties as may be assigned.
DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work with a diverse student and community population including various ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds to include homeless families.
Ability to work well as part of school and district teams such as student study team, crisis team, behavior team, Centralia Community Collaborative and case management teams.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Social Work
Possession of a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Social Work.
Possession of a valid California driver license and motor vehicle with insurance; submission to a Department of Motor Vehicles check, as may be required.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to speak and write fluently in Spanish is highly desirable, but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Persons performing services in this position classification will frequently exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects and/or children.
This type of work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping from brief periods of time to lengthy periods of time.
Persons performing services in this position classification will incur frequent interruptions and work in a high-pressure environment.
Essential job functions include: Perceiving the nature of sound; near and far visual acuity; depth perception; providing oral and written communication; ability to speak and project voice in either an enclosed or open area; manual dexterity to handle and work with various materials, objects and equipment; and the physical ability to perform a variety of physical activities.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must hold a Masters degree in social work, a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential (School Social Work, Child Welfare and Attendance), and valid State of California LCSW licensure (or hold an ACSW and have the ability to obtain the LCSW within two years from date of hire).
Bilingual (Spanish speaking) preferred; however, the District is seeking individuals to work in diverse school settings, with both bilingual skills (Spanish speaking) and bicultural experience.
