I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is seeking a Development Assistant.
DAR is responsible for leading the university’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. SMHS is the 11th oldest medical school in the country and the first in the nation’s capital. Since its establishment, the school has been at the forefront of medical education, and has grown to include highly-ranked programs in emergency medicine, cancer treatment and research, as well as the health and biomedical sciences. This position is an integral component to achieving aspirational fundraising goals.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Major & Principal Gifts, Cancer, this position:
Provides programmatic and administrative support on various development and alumni relations activities.
Core responsibilities include supporting development professionals through the various development initiatives, including correspondence, creation of marketing materials, memorandums, letters, and gift agreements, in addition to travel, scheduling, and logistic support as needed.
May serve as the primary point of contact for development related events (dinners, meetings, receptions), including assisting with the planning, execution, and follow up. Works to track activities related to development programs and initiatives.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Experience in complex academic healthcare organizations strongly preferred
The position requires a high level of judgement, the utmost attention to detail, customer service, organization, and ability to multi-task and prioritize. The position also maintains a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to work with a high degree of independence, and learn information quickly and accurately.
Demonstrated exceptional writing, grammar, and editing skills, and the ability to handle dimensional feedback and evolving expectations.
Hiring Range
$21.27 - $27.63 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
