Summary
Performs customer service and clerical work at the County landfill. The work involves determining the weight and nature of waste brought to the landfill and enforcing landfill regulations. Worker carries out daily assignments, follows through on matters, and uses independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.
Essential Job Functions
Operates weigh scale equipment and enters data on terminal.
Works with both County residents and various businesses enforcing the rates, rules, and regulations of the landfill.
Answers the recycling hotline and assists residents over the phone with the procedures and operations of Recycling Centers, Landfill, Curbside Recycling, and Hazardous Household Waste.
Acts as a liaison for other County agencies redirecting calls to the correct departments within Charles County Government.
Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, and annual tonnage reports, monthly fuel usage reports, and other reports.
Prepares monthly customer billing and reviews reports for accuracy.
Collects money, verifies transmittals, and maintains adequate change fund.
Responds to public inquiries and customers' questions.
Prepares division overtime, attendance records, and worker's compensation claims.
Enforces rates, rules, and regulations of the landfill.
Issues refuse permits for and maintains customer account files.
Collects information on vehicle maintenance program and ensures accurate record keeping of same.
Coordinates blue bin recycling and yard waste pickup from citizen's recycling hotline.
Other Duties Performs related work as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Physical Demands The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity, and is performed in office and landfill surroundings. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs; bend and crouch; reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and to use normal or aided vision and hearing.
Unusual Demands Weekend work is required and employees are constrained to the work site while on duty. Employee may be called back in emergencies.
