Staff Research Scientist, IBM Corporation, San Jose, CA: Perform fundamental research within area of Machine Learning and Computational biology with an expectation that said research will result in published papers, patents, external eminence, and ultimately delivery of generated assets back to product for sale. Write ETL pipelines for processing the data which involves several steps for genome assembly and quality determination, gene and protein annotation, and functional annotation. Generate innovative ideas and concepts (theoretical or experimental) while performing advanced scientific/engineering tasks. Provide ongoing technical and operational guidance to lead professional work teams, conducts special projects, or manage departments. Define and decide objectives within specified business concept or project and may have responsibility for tools and assigned resources. Oversee a first line department and be accountable for department results and activities and/or projects involving multi-functional teams. Mentor interns and participate in company programs to provide technical mentorship to new hires and college students. Engineer ideas to an advanced state of feasibility by evaluating ideas and plans and participating in their implementation. Produce full cycle of innovation to delivery over a multiple-year effort. Act as senior lead with visible participation in professional technical communities and societies (program committee member, workshop organizer). Create novel method in Deep Learning to handle data with unbalanced data classes as this enables less data preparation and use of all data available. Utilize: Machine Learning, Data Science, Python, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Structured Query Language (SQL). Required: Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related (employer will accept a Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of progressive experience in lieu of a Master’s degree) and one (1) year of experience as a Software Engineer, Developer or related. One (1) year of experience must include utilizing Machine Learning, Data Science, Python, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Structured Query Language (SQL). $239,200.00 per year. Full time.
