Pharmacy Intern Position
API is a federally qualified health center serving the underserved in Akron, Kent, and Barberton. API is committed to providing a quality, affordable, and compassionate health home for—every patient, every time–in all communities. API is utilizing interdisciplinary teams as an integral part of the medical home model. API pharmacy is a 340b pharmacy.
Job Description Duties:
Assist in Prescription Processing and Dispensing
- Accurately and timely fill prescriptions
- Input patient and prescription data into the computer system
- Process 3rd party billing and insurance rejections
- Assist pharmacists in dispensing operations
- Maintain patient profiles and pharmacy records
- Follow current and new Federal and State Laws
Customer Service
- Ensure prompt service by assisting patients
- Answer telephones promptly
- Complete pharmacy patient transactions on the cash register
Participate in Pharmacy Clinical Services
- Counsel patients on their medications
- Identify patients for clinical referral
- Work in collaboration with all members of the care team to assess, facilitate, plan and advocate appropriate services to meet the patient’s health requirements on an individual basis
- Provide Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services
- Provide immunizations
- Assist with housekeeping and maintenance of Pharmacy
- Additional Tasks as Assigned by Pharmacy Manager
Requirements:
- Must be enrolled in good academic standing with an accredited College of Pharmacy as a second year pharmacy student (if four year program)
- Must have an active intern license with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
- Must pass the background check according to the Ohio Board of Pharmacy regulations (BCI & FBI WebCheck)
- Must have completed an immunization certificate program
- Must have and maintain a current BLS/CPR certificate
- Must have and maintain personal professional insurance (mal-practice) – cost will be reimbursed after successful completion of the summer internship period
Experience/skills Needed:
- Computer skills
- Previous pharmacy experience – preferred
COMPLIANCE:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). The employee will occasionally be working near moving mechanical parts, be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and exposed to a risk of electrical shock while running the copier, printer, other standard equipment and answering the telephone. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate. Stress level can be high at times.
