Burns & McDonnell has an exceptional opportunity for a self-motivated and entrepreneurial individual to join our growing Mid-Atlantic Region Water Practice. Becoming an employee-owner and help influence the direction and success of this team of high performers. This opportunity involves working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and scientists to develop utility management and planning solutions for a wide array of water-related projects locally, regionally, and nationwide. The position also involves collaborating with other Burns & McDonnell professionals to develop business and operational strategies using a variety of tools, including digital strategies, grant and funding sources, data analytics, and advanced planning services to advise a wide range of Utility Owners, both public and private. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply analytical skills used in asset and utility management projects to assist engineering staff on other planning and design projects.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who enjoys working as part of a team, and will have the technical, organizational, and communication skills to:
Guide the development and implementation of water and wastewater utility management solutions and asset management plans throughout their lifecycle.
Assist in the development of Utility Management tools, such as structured databases and interactive business intelligence and data visualization dashboards.
Perform life-cycle cost analysis of various asset types as well as support utility CIP Prioritization
Demonstrate proficiency in utility optimization and business practices, specialized modeling, technologies, or practices that help drive project delivery and business development.
Participate and/or lead utility strategic planning initiatives
Directly contribute to client relationships, pursuits, scope development and project management for Utility Management services
Participate in managing Utility Management staff for a project or office.
Mentor staff within the Region through project execution and direct interaction.
Assess client needs/issues and strategize approaches/solutions with project teams.
Bachelor’s degree in a business or engineering discipline.
5-12 years of water and/or wastewater utility-related experience (private or public sector)
Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint a must)
Working familiarity using and managing databases and using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or other related tools
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
