As an Airport IT Specialist II, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and troubleshooting technical systems, hardware, software, and devices, as well providing technical assistance and support to department staff. Reporting to the Department Information Systems Coordinator, you will also take direction from the Airport Manager and Airport Assistant Manager. Responsibilities of this position include:
Serving as the lead administrator for the Sonoma County Airport's terminal building LAN, including configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades
Coordinating the repair, relocation, addition, installation, activation, deactivation, and removal of technical devices
Determining when and how to appropriately escalate requests and issues to management, vendors, and contractors
Providing brief user training and education on systems, software, and hardware, as well as preparing and delivering formalized training on various applications and services to all levels of department staff
Offering technical assistance and oversight to department staff managing the department/division's website, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Intranet sites
Providing daily phone and email support to staff with varying levels of technical knowledge and skills
Troubleshooting computer hardware and peripherals, both physically and remotely via telephone and remote-control software
Providing backup and covering leaves for other team members, including acting as the primary phone and email technician, and tasks like account management, security group management, and email distribution list management
Please note: This position works standard business hours (Monday through Friday, 8am until 5pm). However, flexibility will be required to perform network hardware upgrades and maintenance that cannot be done during Airport terminal operational hours. Additionally, maintaining smooth Airport operations may necessitate callouts that require call-back or overtime with little to no notice.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Two years of experience providing both hands-on and remote support for hardware, software, desktops, laptops, and peripherals in a non-scripted environment.
Extensive experience in administering and supporting network hardware (Fortinet and Cisco preferred) and mobile devices in an enterprise setting, and in ensuring the proper functioning of network firewalls, switches, wireless access points, and VLANs
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting a variety of technical issues
The ability to provide clear and concise technical support and training to users with varying levels of technical expertise
Competence in coordinating with IT staff and other departments to ensure seamless technical support and operations
Intermediate working knowledge to support, install, and troubleshoot standard Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Suite, standard Microsoft Windows-based software standard functions and processes
Strong communication and public speaking skills
One or more network vendor-specific certifications is preferred (CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco, or Fortinet)
The following must be completed in order to pass probation:
A completed, successful Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Background Clearance in order to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge
Other backgrounds, as necessary, to obtain access to/clearance to view Sensitive Security Information (SSI) and access to the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN)

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of experience and training which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally this would include:
Experience: Two years of experience in developing and maintaining information technology systems in a multi-platform information systems environment, including at least one year of experience developing and/or modifying applications; AND
Education: The equivalent to completion of twelve semester or eighteen quarter units in information systems, computer science or closely related field;
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.
