Position Overview: The Veterinary Technician will assist doctors with all treatments and procedures, while ensuring the best quality of care possible for our patients. The Veterinary Technician must pay attention to detail and maintain very high standards of cleanliness and care. Must be able to communicate well with coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
Proficient IV catheter placement, and accurate drug calculations & calculations.
Quality nursing and husbandry care of patients.
Strong working knowledge of veterinary procedures and pharmacology.
Perform in- hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs.
Perform and/ or participate in all other diagnostics such as radiology, ultrasound, ECG, BP, and glucose monitoring.
Monitor anesthesia.
Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights as well as providing client education.
Provide nursing care for in- hospital patients including all veterinarians requested treatments, diagnostics, and medication. Accurately and completely record all treatments.
Conduct pre- admission exams and discharge hospitalized patients.
Updates clients appropriately.
Maintain legally defensible medical records in cooperation with veterinarians.
Actively engage in nursing rounds.
Required Knowledge/ Skills:
1 – 2 years’ experience as a Veterinary Technician.
Excellent veterinary nursing and technician skills.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
Strong computer skills.
Strong ability to multi- task.
Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
