Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem Secretary II.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing the routine task of Radiology reception area as prescribed, including greeting patients and their guest, answering telephones, and scheduling exams.
Job Responsibilities:
- Exhibits excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the greeting and direction of visitors.
- Greets visitors promptly in a courteous and professional manner.
- Gives correct information to visitors based on content of inquiry. Gives and receives correct materials to and from visitors as needed or requested (e.g. requisitions, patient charts, other forms/applications).
- Types schedule/all materials neatly and accurately. Types materials according to instructions. Sends copies of finished schedule to certain areas (e.g. file room, CT scan area, neuro, Vascular, Cysto and GI areas) in the morning. Updates and maintains scheduling books on a daily basis.
- Meets specifications given by the supervisor, is attentive to details and adheres to pertinent medical center policies when scheduling. Meets the needs of the department as assigned.
- Schedules patients and exams using appropriate methodologies and tracking methods.
- Obtains all necessary information from doctors offices and schedules patients for special procedures. Uses x-ray requests to arrange schedule properly. Sends proper notification and prep orders to appropriate floors indicating and confirming that the patient is scheduled.
- Directs telephone calls and visitors appropriately based on content of inquiry. Obtains information, answers questions and resolves routine problems in an appropriate manner. Asks the caller for his/her name and directs the caller to the appropriate person or area when necessary. Transfers calls correctly and pages appropriate person, if necessary, informing the intended recipient of the callers identity through the use of the intercom. Takes messages accurately and thoroughly.
- Answers telephones, screens calls, and takes messages in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Answers telephone promptly, identifying the department and self when answering the phone. Greets and screens the telephone calls in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Identifies the individual and informs the correct individual of his/her visitor. Directs the visitor, courteously, to the proper individual or area based on content of inquiry. Directs the visitor, if needed to dressing room to change into hospital attire, or to the waiting area.
- Processes patients information into computers and informs technologists of patient arrivals.
- Demonstrates knowledge of proper use of PC, label printers, report printers, etc, and minor adjustments to correct malfunctions.
- Clarifies information or obtains additional facts, if necessary, in order to assist the visitor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma.
- Three years of relevant medical clerical experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Background in computer literacy preferred.
- Light, accurate keyboarding skills required.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communications skills required.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $30.07 - $30.07 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
