Job Description
Cape Fox is seeking a highly qualified Systems Engineer-Senior to join our team in support of a government customer. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in supporting and designing data centers and possess extensive technical understanding of the operation and management of an enterprise hosted services data center. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for reviewing existing technology and telecommunications hardware and software and recommendations to the management regarding communications requirements and allocated budgets. This position is contingent upon award.
Core Duties:
Demonstrate vast technical understanding of hosted services data center operations, serving as the liaison between the hosting facility and clients
Establish and monitor data center performance metrics to ensure efficiency and peak performance
Oversee physical infrastructure elements such as UPS systems, HVAC systems, and critical temperature and power systems, coordinating assessments, and contractor tasks
Conduct routine maintenance on data center and communication rooms to ensure uninterrupted operations
Develop and maintain precise documentation of data center equipment, encompassing serial numbers and asset tags
Exhibit initiative and reliability by offering round-the-clock support and swift responses to service disruptions
Independently identify and resolve issues proactively to preempt service interruptions
Manage physical security systems like Access Control and Video Monitoring Systems, ensuring their smooth operation
Apply IT Service Management (ITSM) practices such as change management and incident management to uphold service availability and reliability
Prioritize customer satisfaction and maintain high service availability to meet client requirements
Communicate effectively via technical writing, diagrams, and verbal communication with both IT personnel and management
Leverage expertise in Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI) initiatives to refine data center operations and efficiency
Utilize experience in data center service design and management to enhance operational workflows
Deploy and refine Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) solutions for operational streamlining
Integrate knowledge of Renewable Energy systems to support sustainable data center practices
Apply expertise in NIST Special Publication 800-53 standards, particularly in Physical Environmental Controls, to ensure compliance and bolster security
WASO Voice and Voicemail Support:
Develop system database requirements for the NPS telecommunications inventory (i.e., review of existing technology and telecommunications hardware and software and recommendations to the management regarding communications requirements and allocated budgets)
Provide technical knowledge to the NPS telecommunications team on issues, technology, and implementation strategies, to include detailed design and specification of a voice network to carry out NPS goals and objective, development, and implementation of site surveys to collect the information needed for the transition as well as for continued management of the service, and assistance with development of long-range management plans for supporting NPS technical needs
Provide technical support for the Avaya CM PBX, (i.e., add and remove users and devices, manage and monitor the voice mail system (AAM), and, when necessary, determine appropriate problem solutions for user requirements outside of the day-to-day maintenance support that may include new technology or new features on the existing PBX)
Interface with the maintenance provider to monitor and implement changes, updates, and upgrades to the Avaya Communication Manager PBX
Actively manage the "change management" functions and requirements for the PBX
Provide support to perform the routine tasks required to support system administration requirements to meet the telecommunications and voice support requirements:
Comply with Service Level Agreements
Comply with all DOI and NPS Security Protocols
Create, edit, and monitor scheduled tasks
User management (i.e., add/delete/role management)
Monitor system performance
System tuning
Monitor for, report, and analyze anomalies
Assist in Tier 1/2/3 support issues
Documentation of processes/configurations
Configure and maintain systems to perform auditing and logging
Patch Management and vulnerability mitigation
In-depth knowledge with Avaya’s VoIP equipment and support, voice/VoIP design and site survivability, VoIP implementation, and remote management
Create, edit, and generate end user training documents for new systems
IR Video-Teleconferencing Services (VTC)
Provide support to various environments, including production, disaster recovery, test, and development
Provide support to perform the routine tasks required to support system administration requirements to meet the video-teleconferencing requirements
Provide technical support for the ordering, management, and service-wide coordination of videoconferencing within NPS (i.e., direct participation in the operation of the videoconferencing facilities at MIB and Reston)
Act as a liaison with NPS video facilities service-wide
Provide nationwide support for an enterprise VTC Infrastructure, comprised of mostly Polycom equipment
Provide support to perform the routine tasks required to support system administration requirements for the ongoing support of the Video-Teleconferencing Services hardware and software

Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree or combination of education and experience
At least 10 years of related technical experience in supporting and designing data centers
Extensive technical understanding of the operation and management of an enterprise hosted services data center with experience acting as a liaison between a hosting facility and hosting facility customers
Proven experience in assessing power systems and ensuring quality work by Data Center electrical contractors
Ability to oversee and manage contracted vendor work in a data center environment
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels
Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior staff members in data center operations and management
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and reliability in data center operations
Experience with Data Center Optimization Initiative (DCOI)
Experience with data center service design and management
Experience with design, implementation, and management of DCIM
Experience with Photovoltaic or other Renewable Energy systems
Knowledge of NIST Special Publication 800-53 (NIST.SP.800-53, Security and Privacy Controls for Information Systems and Organizations) Standards with a concentration on Physical Environmental Controls
Required to pass a Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) prior to starting work
