Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor and guidance of the Site Supervisor, Lead Teacher, Teacher, Master Teacher, or Designee, the Infant and Toddler Assistant Teacher, works as a member of a teaching team to promote active learning by planning and implementing developmentally appropriate experiences and by creating an environment in which children can experiment, make choices, solve problems and share their experiences with others; assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly physical environment.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Possession of a high school diploma, or its equivalent
- Eligible for a valid Child Development Assistant Permit from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- As prescribed in section 648A(a)(2)(B)(ii) of the Head Start Act, a program must ensure Head Start Assistant Teachers, are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate
degree or, are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
- Completion with a grade C or better of at least six (6) semester units of college coursework in early childhood education or child development from the following core areas:
-- Child/human growth and development;
-- Child, family and community, or child and family relations;
- Completed coursework must include, 3 units, with a C or better OR must obtain within 12 months of hire:
-- Infant and Toddler Care
-- Infant and Toddler Development
-- Infant and Toddler Curriculum
-- Early Childhood Education curriculum
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of an appropriate, valid California Driver’s License, and evidence of insurability
- CPR Certification appropriate for the age level of assignment within six (6) months of employment
