RECRUITMENT DETAILS
THE ELIGIBILITY LIST WILL BE VALID FOR 6 MONTHS
Under the supervision of site administrator, or designee, patrol a middle and a high school campus and nearby parking areas in order to ensure school security and student safety; assist in the enforcement of student attendance rules and student compliance with the health and safety regulations adopted by the District and the respective school site.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS BETWEEN RELATED CLASSES Campus Safety Assistant-Secondary is primarily responsibility for student safety at a middle or high school campus, while positions allocated to the Campus Safety Assistant-Elementary job class are responsible for campus supervision in lunch and playground areas on an elementary school campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Patrol and monitor an assigned District school campus area and/or property to maintain order, safety and security; monitor student locker rooms, lunch areas, walkways, restrooms, parking lots, athletic/performance facilities, and adjacent areas; patrol sporting venues including crowd control.
Monitor students during passing periods between classes, lunch and break periods; assure timely return of students to class; advise students of consequences of violation of rules.
Check student's passes to ensure that they are authorized to enter or leave campus; escorts students who do not have a pass to the office or calls an administrator, if necessary.
Take action to prevent or break up fights and disturbances; escort students to office for disciplinary action as necessary; may participate and/or assist an administrator with visual and locker search for alcohol, weapons, drugs and drug paraphernalia and report to appropriate authorities according to established procedure.
Enforce school and District rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff and property; report unusual activities or unauthorized persons on campus to appropriate personnel.
Monitor students assigned to in-house suspension, after school detention and lock-out periods.
Monitor campus for unauthorized personnel entry; checks for visitors' passes and directs/escorts general public to the administration office, in accordance with campus sign-in procedures.
Serve as a first responder; evaluate student injuries, determine course of action, perform minor first aid; complete required paperwork in compliance with District policy(ies).
May assist administration in the event of fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills.
Issue equipment approved for use in lunch time outdoor activities; maintain reasonable order in games and play activities.
Encourage and promote courtesy among students; reports cases of unusual behavior or other problems; observes and reports safety hazards; prevents students from engaging in unsafe activities.
Identify, correct and/or report safety hazards that may compromise student/staff safety.
Monitor parking lots for proper parking procedures and traffic flow, opens and secures gates. Assists with crowd control at school events.
Assist in custodial duties. May wipe tables and benches in cafeteria and/or outside eating areas.
Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience Any combination of education and experience that will provide the ability to meet the minimum qualifications and perform the essential functions of the position will be qualifying. Some experience working with school-aged children highly desirable. First aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
*Alternate variations of education/experience may be considered by Personnel Commission staff as acceptable to qualify for participation in the examination process resulting in an eligibility list. When appropriate additional work experience beyond the minimum requirement may be supplemented for required minimum education requirements. Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements
Valid First-Aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) Certificates shall be obtained for permanency in this classification (within 6 months of employment) and must be renewed as necessary during employment.
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.
Mandatory job-related training as annually notified by the Human Resources Department and/or school site administrator, including sexual molestation prevention and child abuse reporter.

Knowledge of:
Student guidance principles and practices.
Approved procedures and techniques involved in supervising and disciplining students.
General knowledge of campus security;
General safety principles;
Basic communication methods.
Health and safety regulation, including basic first aid, CPR, AED, and blood borne pathogens.

Communicate and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including students;
