Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, performs engineering drafting or evaluation of engineering, architectural, and development plans and drawings.
Examples of Essential Duties
Accepts applications for building, water, plumbing, and electrical permits or licenses, public works agreements, or plans submittals.
Reviews applications for completeness.
Reviews engineering, architectural, and/or development plans as required by a particular permit, license, or statute to determine suitability for acceptance and to determine required technical review.
Computes cost of permit, license, or other fee based on established guidelines as determined by content of plans or drawings. Issues building, plumbing, and electrical permits.
Prepares plans for further technical review by performing routine preliminary calculations and researching additional information, such as plats, property lines, material specifications, survey or topographical maps, or soil charts.
Prepares contractual documents for capital projects.
Prepares cost estimates based on linear footage and other factual information on plans or drawings according to established schedules.
Reviews special agreements to determine financial responsibility.
Checks calculations performed by others for accuracy.
Prepares and revises maps, plans, and drawings from field notes, sketches, and instructions.
Charts layouts for various scale maps.
Plots new roads, subdivisions, buildings, property and zoning descriptions, and other features for maps.
Prepares plats for right of way agreements and permits.
Prepares detailed shop drawings and designs.
Creates schematics and wiring diagrams.
Examples of Other Duties
Tracks applications, plans, and drawings through review process.
Enters information from applications, plans, or drawings into an automated record keeping system.
Answers questions about status of review process.
May assist in site inspections.
Provides information to developers and the general public regarding zoning regulations.
Assists in the building permit approval process.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
Plus
Four years' experience in field or office work that entailed the evaluation or drafting of engineering, architectural, or development plans and drawings.
(Additional education in an engineering related field may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.)
Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Conditions of Employment
Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include walking, standing, and lifting, and the operation of office equipment.
