Job Summary

Responsibilities
The incumbent will have general responsibility for life and property protection in the Allen Memorial Art Museum, and provide emergency and general public safety services to the Museum’s facilities, staff, and patrons.
Essential Job Functions
• Conduct walking patrol of the assigned area of the Allen Memorial Art Museum, with particular focus on collections and secured areas of the Museum. • Perform some traditional law enforcement duties typically assigned to safety and security personnel. • Respond promptly and professionally to requests from professional staff and other employees, students and visitors for emergency and general security/safety services. • Monitor electronic alarms, card access and surveillance equipment. • Enforce the rules, regulations and policies of Oberlin College, the Allen Memorial Art Museum, and applicable laws necessary to maintain an orderly environment. • Conduct thorough security checks of all Museum facilities in order to insure the integrity and safety of the people and contents. • Promptly correct and/or report to the appropriate College office all security, safety, utility, environmental, and fire hazards. • Secure and open the facility as scheduled. • Stay well-informed and promote crime prevention and fire safety. • As assigned, conduct thorough investigation and inquiry into incidents involving violation of College policy, criminal offenses, or suspicious circumstances; submit comprehensive written reports on all such incidents • Fulfill requirements of a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Jeanne Clery Act in relation to reporting crimes to law enforcement authorities. • Perform all Safety and Security services or emergency/general related duties as required by the Director or Assistant Director of Safety and Security, or by the Museum Director and/or the Museum Security Supervisor, or by a superior officer.

Required Qualifications
Must be at least 19 years of age with a valid Ohio Driver’s license and driving record, which passes College insurability standards. High school diploma or GED. Prior experience in security, public safety, law enforcement or protective services. No criminal record. Must be able and willing to work flexible hours and days during the week and on the weekends and be available on relatively short notice, and for additional coverage for extracurricular Museum events. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills (a writing sample will be required during the interview). Must be able to supply favorable references. Must demonstrate the ability to interact in a sensitive, courteous and understanding way with members of a diverse residential and academic community and the general public; the ability to handle several projects simultaneously and to maintain composure in emergency situations; and the ability to work in a team setting to provide a safe and secure environment.
Desired Qualifications
Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or related field. Consideration will be given for related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with art museums and overall museum protocol. Any offer made is contingent upon a pre-employment physical, drug test and satisfactory completion of a comprehensive background investigation.

Compensation
This position will be paid at an hourly rate of $24.38 Total compensation includes a generous benefits package.
