Job Summary
Under general supervision of the Lactation Center Coordinator performs in the activities of the Lactation Center, including daily patient rounds. Acts as a clinical liaison between the Lactation Center and Maternal Child staff and Physicians.
Essential Functions

May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
- Engages in staff teaching and development and patient teaching regarding breast-feeding and bottle-feeding. Uses flexible approaches to teaching based on assessment of learner’s needs and the principles of adult learning. Assists other staff in initiating a plan to meet identified learning needs.
- Subject matter expert, acting as a resource to other staff members in problem identification and resolution.
- Utilizes opportunities for incidental teaching with staff members (i.e. during report, at the bedside,
- during discussions).
- Assists with the development of unit educational programs and learning aids.
- Participates in hospital work teams and special projects as assigned.
- Assists in orientation of new staff by acting as co-care giver or consultant. Participates in presenting information at staff meetings.
- Practices cost effective use of staff and supplies and suggests alternate approaches for increasing cost-effectiveness.
- Works with Lactation Center coordinator to set goal for self and department in relation to performance management.
- Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Healthcare – ValleyCare’s patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions
Job Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- BSN preferred
- Completion of Certified Lactation Consultant/Educator training required
Experience
- Five plus years clinical experience, including newborns and breastfeeding mother’s care
License/Certification
- Current CA R.N. License
- BLS – Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.
- IBCLC preferred
- NRP preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate among all levels of the Hospital
- Ability to read, write and understand the English Language
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong working knowledge of joint commission, quality and safety control standards
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development
- Proven problem solver

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $57.00 - $77.00 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
