The Corporate Law Department of Plymouth Rock Management Company of New Jersey, located in Woodbridge, NJ, seeks a full-time attorney to provide in-house legal support on a wide range of corporate and insurance-related topics. The candidate must have good judgment, strong communication skills, and a high degree of emotional intelligence. The position requires sharp legal research skills and a willingness to lean in on all aspects of corporate governance, property and casualty insurance, and the governing regulatory framework in which we operate. The candidate must be business-minded, well-organized, a team player, and able to work on multiple projects at once in a fast-moving and dynamic environment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform legal analysis of state and federal laws pertaining to auto and home insurance, including regulatory filing and licensing requirements, consumer disclosures, cybersecurity and AI, and privacy and data protection
Track legislative and regulatory developments that could impact our business, formulate pragmatic and practical advice and processes to promote compliance, and develop and deliver training as necessary
Conduct periodic monitoring and surveillance into compliance with applicable legal requirements and internal policies and procedures
Draft, publish and maintain subject-specific guidance for colleagues and internal policies and procedures
Develop expertise regarding corporate governance, including company by-laws, board resolutions, and legal entity management
Partner with colleagues with subject matter expertise to manage and respond to consumer and regulatory inquiries, including data calls and surveys
Draft and negotiate corporate vendor contracts, software license agreements, service contracts, and other legal instruments
Create and/or update contractual templates and help maintain company’s contract management system
Assist as needed with property management, labor, and employment law matters
Review materials and develop expertise related to marketing and sales initiatives
Collaborate and partner with colleagues throughout the company in developing practical and pragmatic solutions to all manner of issues that may arise
Qualifications and Education
J.D. from an accredited law school
New Jersey bar admission in good standing, or if admitted in another state, eligible for a New Jersey in-house counsel license
At least 3 years in-house corporate and/or insurance law experience; ability to read a balance sheet preferred
High emotional intelligence, evidenced by the capacity to listen and develop relationships of trust at all levels of the organization
Strong communication skills; the ability to produce accurate, clear, and persuasive communications, both oral and written
Sharp analytical and legal research skills; mastery of Westlaw
Effective time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks
Demonstrated aptitude with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
