The City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of Street Maintenance Leadworker (Promotional Only).
The Street Maintenance Leadworker works under general supervision as a working leader. This position is responsible for directing and coordinating employees and crews engaged in a variety of maintenance activities involving streets, storm drains, signing, street sweeping and other assigned activities.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
As a designated working leader, performs, assigns and directs the work of a crew, providing directions, instructions, and/or information on street maintenance and repairs performed by the group, including ensuring adherence to safe work sites, practices and methods; develops and installs new and/or revised methods, practices or procedures which improve the work flow or utilization of employee's time and abilities; instructs, trains, and coaches employees in the technical aspects of their respective jobs, and answers any questions related to the work assignment; determines work assignments necessary and sequence of operations when priorities are rescheduled; performs actual work operations required of assigned group and gives assistance on matters affecting work; operates motorized/mechanized construction equipment such as paving machines, graders, skip loaders, trucks, backhoes, sweepers, asphalt rollers, and other comparable equipment; provides supervisor with information and evaluation regarding the performance of subordinate crew members; performs other related duties as assigned.
Incumbent may be required to work stand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years of full-time journey-level street maintenance and repair, general maintenance and repair, or construction maintenance and repair experience. Prior supervisory or lead experience and/or training is highly desirable. Experience operating and maintaining light and medium motorized/mechanized equipment is highly desirable.
License: Possession of a valid California Class C driver license.
Within six months of employment, incumbent is required to obtain and, thereafter, maintain the following licenses: Valid California Class A driver's license with the tanker endorsement and the allowable Auto transmission restriction. According to the Department of Transportation (DOT), drug testing is required.
