Under general supervision of the Park Superintendent, this employee performs supervisory work at the full performance level by being responsible for Cacapon Resort State Park Grounds Maintenance Department. This employee will be responsible for the appearance, repair, and general care of the grounds of Cacapon Resort State Park including mowed areas, picnic sites, and manicured areas around the lodge, cabins, and other buildings. Work will include supervising and performing the planting of grass, flowers, shrubs, trees; mowing of grass and trimming of shrubbery and trees; performing snow removal, trail maintenance, and road maintenance; performing necessary preventive measures for insect and vermin control and against other damaging effects; and selecting supplies and equipment for the care and upkeep of the grounds. Performs additional routine grounds and roadway maintenance work and/or assigns work to other staff. Must possess the ability to plan, layout, and supervise the work of employees. Must prepare and process work reports, contract orders, requisitions, bids, and orders. Must possess good verbal and written communications skills, interact with park visitors in a courteous and professional manner, and maintain efficient working relationships with other staff members. Will train new employees and implement policies, procedures, and regulations of the department. Completes employee performance evaluations, approves annual and sick leave, and recommends hiring, disciplinary actions, and other personnel actions. Must have flexibility in work schedule. Will be required to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Will be required to wear a park uniform and obtain a West Virginia State purchasing card. Must possess or acquire a valid CDL driver’s license. Must possess excellent hospitality and customer service skills. Performs related duties as required. Regular attendance is required.

Training: Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.
Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the area of assignment, one year of which must have been in a lead worker or administrative support capacity.
Substitution: Course work from a regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience up to four years for non-trade positions.
Substitution for Business/Trade Positions: Completion of a course accredited by the Department of Education may be substituted for experience at the rate of 1,080 hours per year. OR Completion of a related trade union-sponsored apprenticeship program may be substituted for equivalent amount of full-time experience.
