Senior Control Systems Engineer positions administer and supervise the Automation and Process Control group for the Public Utilities Department; operate and maintain the Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Department Information Network (DIN), Facility Information Network (FIN), and the Process Information Network (PIN); review designs and standardization of the control systems within and between facilities; evaluate and oversee the design, development, implementation, and testing of systems related to area of responsibility; develop and implement system enhancements to improve reliability and performance; prepare reports and correspondence; interview, train, evaluate, and rate subordinates; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
4% effective 7/1/24
2% effective 1/1/25
5% effective 7/1/25
Eligible benefited employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
Senior Control Systems Engineer employees with valid State of California registration as a Professional Control Systems Engineer are eligible for 31% additional pay.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.
EXPERIENCE: Four years of full-time professional industrial engineering project management experience which MUST include supervisory and managerial duties.
NOTE:
City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
REGISTRATION: Registration as a Professional Control Systems Engineer with the State of California.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
One year of full-time professional experience in a water/wastewater control system environment such as design, construction, facility start up, systems operation, or maintenance.
Experience with the Emerson Ovation, AVEVA Wonderware, or WDPF DCS technologies, application hardware/software.
Experience with PLC, SCADA, and PC technologies.
Experience with and knowledge of Industrial Controls CyberSecurity procedures and NIST Standards.

Proof of registration as a Professional Control Systems Engineer with the State of California.
