JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs random quality control and inspections on PMIs for all fleet vehicles and school buses. Inspects vendor repairs and PDI ( Pre-Delivery Inspects ) buses to ensure quality control. Trains mechanics and other shop personnel on vehicle repairs and ensures proper PM methods are being performed. Assists in testing of new parts and repair methods for the HISD fleet. Provides updates on new model requirements for integration into the PMI process.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs random inspections of PMIs and PMI repairs to help ensure the safety and reliability of the HISD school bus and vehicle fleet. Works with the associate transportation mechanics on training in new areas and consistent inspections for safety and reliability of the school buses. Develops training information for the PMI techs and performs training, as needed at all locations.
Generates reports of conditions found during inspections and notifies supervisors of significant problems promptly. Reports PMI inspections to the Senior Manager of Fleet Operations and warranty administrator to ensure proper operations.
Assists in training mechanics on the proper repair of brakes (both Hydraulic and air), engines, transmissions, suspension, steering components, radiators, air conditioning systems, fuel injection systems, vehicle electronic systems, and other components on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and buses. Perform weekly updates on diagnostic equipment.
Assists in the testing of new repair methods and testing and reporting of data on part failures. Inspects and reports failure problems in the fleet and performs failure studies with the warranty administrator. Collects and reports to the Senior manager of Fleet Operations to assist decision making for new part specifications.
Assists Shop in a triage capacity to alleviate backlogs and perform in-field diagnostics.
Assists with the random inspections of vendor repairs and works with vendors and Warranty Rep to ensure proper repairs of fleet vehicles.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED
Trade school or Community College certificate preferred.
Must obtain a Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement within 90 days from time of hire and maintain throughout the length of employment. A/C recovery Certification is required within 90 days from time of hire.
Current ASE /TASBT or Manufacturers Master Technician Certification preferred
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
