The Senior Fitness and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the daily management of a comprehensive fitness department that includes fitness and wellness programs and day-to-day operations of fitness and wellness spaces, including program development, and supervision of student and non-student staff. The position will work with campus departments and student organizations on the coordination and successful execution of their events including supervision of the special events crew. The Coordinator will collaborate with campus partners to promote student engagement, lead initiatives with fitness and wellness programming and operations, fitness and special events, and instructional programs, and foster the well-being of all members of the campus community. The Coordinator will lead the charge for creating robust offerings to increase participation and diversification of special events, fitness programs, and participants.
This position, reporting to the Associate Director of Programming, is responsible for the following:
- Assist in establishing and implementing short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for Fitness and Wellness.
- Monitor and evaluate operational effectiveness, and implement changes required for improvement.
- Oversee the administrative functions of the group fitness and personal training programs; provide data and maintain detailed records on the program’s revenue, budget, demands, client feedback, instructor/trainer feedback, and participation numbers.
- Assist in establishing tracking procedures for facility use and program participation. Identify patron goals and develop detailed fitness programs with tangible metrics for success.
- Work with marketing and membership teams to develop targeted and promotional materials to boost participation and recruitment for group fitness, personal training, massage, and nutrition programs.
- Work with center staff, management, company affiliates, and service providers collaboratively to grow and ensure the delivery of quality programs and services.
- Oversee 20+ fitness instructors and 10+ certified personal trainers dedicated to evaluating and assessing program objectives and goals.
- Work as the manager on duty for the facility as needed for openings, closings, and weekends
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: | Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. |
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: | Certification(s) with one or more accredited professional certification organizations: - ACE, AFAA, ACSM, NCSA, SCC, NASM, CSCS, or similar certifications.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
