Job Purpose
Design, synthesize, and test new polymers for successful adoption by New Product Development (NPD) tests for use in various high-performance coatings applications with the focus on can coatings and coal applications.
Job Responsibilities
Manage the effective planning of requirements for assigned projects.
Understand application requirements and translation to polymer design.
Plan and execute polymer syntheses.
Submit requests for polymer analysis and evaluation of polymer properties.
Order raw materials, ensuring proper storage in the chemical inventory.
Facilitate transfer of the chemistry to the New Product Development (NPD), assisting with scale up efforts.
Present results at project meetings, preparing summary reports as required.
Job Requirements
Education and experience must include one of the following:
Bachelor of Science in Polymer Science or related field and five (5) years' polymer synthesis experience in the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing.
Master of Science in Polymer Science or related field and three (3) years' polymer synthesis experience in the coatings industry or chemical manufacturing.
Knowledge of structure-performance relationships in polymers for coatings and modern polymer characterization methods.
Proficient with the calculations of polymer properties.
Ability to test and proactively develop new synthetic methodologies and new polymers.
Ability to use required laboratory glassware and equipment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with all business functions.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Remain aware of relevant scientific and patent literature.
Adhere to AkzoNobel values and safety standards.
Total Compensation
The compensation package for this position will include a base salary, annual bonus, and employee benefits that are effective the first day of employment.
