Job Description Summary | Located within the Libraries & Learning Commons, the Academic Success Center (ASC) provides academic support across all majors and disciplines with the goal of helping students become engaged, self-sufficient learners who are confident in their abilities to reach their academic goals. ASC services include face-to-face tutoring, group tutoring, online tutoring, and academic skills workshops. Libraries & Learning Commons Academic Coaches work collaboratively with students to help them develop the skills and confidence to become self-sufficient learners and to improve their skill sets, with a focus on holistic skills (time management, self-organization, study skills, information literacy, etc.) necessary for college success & retention. |
Specific Duties | - Help students develop their own best practices for becoming self-sufficient learners during individual and group sessions, offered both face-to-face and online.
- Develop and facilitate workshops, as assigned by ASC professional staff, on holistic academic skills such as goal setting, time management, self-organization, study skills, note-taking, media/information literacy, and digital competence.
- Develop supplemental ASC materials as assigned by ASC professional staff (ASC academic coaching, student resources, relevant social media posts, etc…)
- Collaborate with ASC professional staff and/or campus partners to offer targeted academic coaching support for distinct student populations (Academic Probation and Disqualification students, Black Scholars Living Learning Community, Accessibility Services, and/or SOS referral students.)
- Complete supplemental ASC and Libraries & Learning Commons activities, including ASC class visits, reflections, observations, mentoring, and co-tutoring sessions, as assigned by ASC professional staff.
- Attend and actively participate in all mandatory trainings and meetings, including fall and spring orientation; weekly small group meetings; and other relevant trainings required for specific subjects or focus areas.
- Gather and report accurate data for each student and/or session.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Associate Director and ASC professional staff.

Minimum Qualifications | - A strong academic background (minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.25)
- Ability to communicate effectively to help students construct their own understandings of course materials.
- Ability to listen to the needs of students and work cooperatively in setting realistic and productive learning goals.
- Sensitivity to the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds of ASC students.
- Dependability and personal accountability.
- Self-motivation, self-regulation, and a desire to mature and learn in a professional teaching/learning environment.
- Must be a current ULV Student

Benefits Summary | Employees are eligible for the following benefits:
One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
