JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
1. Plans and conducts all daily activities of the laboratory.
2. Manages and maintains quality and timeliness of all laboratory operations within budgetary guidelines.
3. Manages turnaround times of all projects brought to the lab.
4. Manges staffing for laboratory; responsible for planning, hiring and realignment of personnel and salary administration.
5. Coaches and Counsels staff in performance improvement and professional development.
6. Ensures appropriate lab compliance with accrediting agency regulations in all required areas.
7. Offer performance feedback to staff and allow them to voice their concerns, needs and expectations of their jobs.
8. Complete annual evaluations.
9. Plans, manages and controls laboratory budget; works within budgetary limits provided in supplies, equipment, service agreements, and personnel salaries.
10. Manage and create specific workflow controls within all areas of the laboratory, manages administrative issues, operations and strategic planning.
11. Encourage employees to participate in educational and departmental events and projects.
12. Provide ideas for continued growth, and relevance of the laboratory.
13. Coordinate with other labs and departments in assisting with their projects.
14. Defines and develops reports according to laboratory needs.
15. Update and revise SOPs.
16. Provide monthly work schedules to staff.
17. Approval leave time.
18. Ensure sufficient staff present for workflow.
19. Uses laboratory knowledge and expertise to identify and resolve overall laboratory operational issues and interacts with all levels of internal and external sources to resolve problems.
20. Ensures laboratory adherence to safety standards, especially in the use of hazardous chemicals.
21. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls.
22. Oversight of imaging and, quantitative analysis, consultations, IHC, RnaseScope, and Fluorescent techniques and training. Review competencies of RHCL staff and students maintain maintenance of imaging equipment.
23. Other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in a related science field. Eight years of histology laboratory experience to include four years of supervisory or managerial experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience. Histology Technician (HT) certification with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
