Position Summary
This individual will be responsible for ensuring the effective operations of the Safety and Security department at the Cleveland Convention Center. Develops and administers company security programs against theft, vandalism, violence, threats against the company and/or its’ employees and patrons. Recommends protection measures and supervises company security staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Acts as manager of hourly building staff while ensuring security supervisors and officers are complying with departmental and company policies and procedures.
Acts as liaison with local, state and federal law and code enforcement officials.
Ensures the safety and security of the building and its attendants, employees, contractors and visitors.
Coordinates, monitors and enforces fire and safety requirements of the Facility with employees, clients, visitors and service providers.
Assists with developing and overseeing Facility emergency response and evacuation plans.
Participates in the safety committee as well as the development, implementation and training of staff on various safety programs as well as OSHA and ADA compliance.
Assists department in schedules and monitors event security personnel and coordinates event needs with the Event’s department when needed.
Performs routine inspections throughout the Facility both inside and out.
Writes and reviews daily logs and reports.
Investigates and reports accidents/incidents, and tracks for compliance reporting
Responds to emergency situations.
Responsible for training and supervision of Security Supervisors and Officers.
Monitors guard activities at assigned posts.
Provide input to staff and conduct training on customer service and safety including, but not limited to, how to conduct safety observations, inspections, and hazardous detection and prevention.
Update and maintain the SMG Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) and Hazardous Communications Plan (HCP).
Monitors employees to evaluate overtime and attendance issues.
Attendance tracking, obtaining employee signatures and timely submission to appropriate personnel.
Produce bi-weekly payroll for department Supervisors and Officers
Coordinates activities and information with the Security Supervisors.
Participates in the interviewing, recruitment and Disciplinary Action process.
Coaching and training new hires on post assignments and general security expectations.
Operates video surveillance, life safety and access control systems effectively.
Fosters and develops team environment.
Monitors and distributes necessary security equipment as assigned.
Back-up to Events Manager role.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Two years’ experience managing and/or supervising in the field of Safety and Security.
Bachelors of Science or Associates degree preferred
Possesses strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Effectively work independently and within team settings with all levels of staff.
Analyze situations, detect problems and take appropriate actions.
Respond to emergencies and stressful situations calmly, quickly and decisively
Manage others effectively.
Establish effective working relationships with clients, event managers, employees and the public.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills including recordkeeping.
Efficient with computer skills including Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, Outlook Scheduling
Working Conditions
Meet the physical demands of this job, which includes personal mobility to all areas of the Facility, climbing steps, lifting (up to 50lbs), standing and sitting for long lengths of time, inclement weather and moderate to loud noises.
Work long flexible hours including weekends, nights and holidays with substantial walking and sitting in both indoor and outdoor inclement settings.
Ability to assist with medical emergencies and site emergencies (i.e. first response situations).
