The Senior Director of DNS Operations is responsible for the strategic vision and policy implementation of Verisign’s DNS services and leads the team that guides the operation of the Internet’s Root and Verisign’s globally distributed platform.
The Senior Director collaborates closely with colleagues in Engineering, InfoSec, Policy and with DNS Industry subject matter experts and is responsible for defining Verisign’s Global DNS Operations policies and supporting the internet community to enable Verisign’s business goals while maintaining the company's status as a “Steward of the Internet”.
A unique aspect of this role is understanding of the Global DNS ecosystem and how it interacts with ICANN Registry agreements and Regional Internet Registries to help ensure Verisign remains in compliance with rapidly evolving regulations and requirements. To effectively lead policy and regulatory discussions in the DNS community, this role requires an understanding of DNS, Internet security, routing and peering, and globally distributed platforms.
Key responsibilities:
- Leads the business and policy direction of Verisign’s globally distributed DNS Operations and Root functions.
- Develops a deep understanding of how policy decisions within the ICANN community and the global regulatory environment affect the company and specifically the COM/NET registry agreements, RZM Agreement, and Root obligations in order to ensure the business goals are met.
- Acts as a key decision-maker in the selection of infrastructure elements that are crucial to the continuing operation of the company’s major lines of business. Acts as a lead negotiator in the procurement of assets related to the infrastructure and strategy mission, while working with TSG to implement selected assets.
- Acts as a key industry representative for the company on Internet resource policy and related matters; Influencing proactively and regularly initiating policy development efforts by conducting research, reviewing, and analyzing of resource policy of all relying infrastructure that requires Verisign to meet its contractual obligations and business goals to recommend the best course of action.
- Collaborates closely with leadership of platform management, engineering operations, global policy, government relations and compliance teams and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that the DNS Operations strategy delivers against the strategic goals of the diverse cross-organization business requirements.
Requirements:
- 10 years of experience in Information technology product management and/or marketing required
- 5 years of management experience
- Deep technical understanding of DNS operations, network routing and security, and related architectures and supporting systems
- Knowledge of business and product, coupled with technical acumen and proven ability to kick-start new projects and see them through to successful product adoption
- Industry knowledge including awareness of trends, current and historical events, understanding of long term regulatory, competitive products, and competitor positioning in marketplace
- Skilled leader and collaborator in addressing internet governance policy issues
- Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent research and analytical skills
- Knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes
- 12+ years’ professional experience with a 4-year Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent work experience
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule.
The pay range is $194,200 - $262,800.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
