JOB SUMMARY
Assists the Chief of Police in the overall supervision and management of the Police Department. Provides for the safety of all students, faculty, District and campus property, and equipment security.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs police and civilian managers and other key personnel to ensure their tasks are performed according to state, local laws and HISD Board Policy.
Collaborates with fellow managers, handles law enforcement supervisory issues and supports school administrators to solve issues.
Works closely with area law enforcement and ensures that all proper protocols are followed. Establishes and develops memorandums of understanding with other agencies that will provide for the access and utilization of resources in the event of an emergency.
Assists the Chief of Police and Assistant Chief of Police in developing and implementing policies and procedures in compliance with law enforcement accreditation standards and best practices.
Assists the Chief of Police and Assistant Chief of Police in managing operational budgetary issues.
Prepares and submits all required reports.
Proposes sound recommendations regarding personnel placement, transfers, retention, dismissal as well as evaluating job performance of personnel.
Assists with coverage within the department as needed.
Participates in professional development opportunities, as appropriate.

EDUCATION
Associate’s Degree required Graduate from the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas' Leadership, Command College or equivalent (preferred)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Ten years of law enforcement experience Five years relevant supervisory experience Patrol experience, campus operations, jail procedures, fleet management, hand-held radio, and mobile radio experience, preffered. Prior investigative experience, preferred. Knowledge of the Human Resources/Hiring Process, preferred.
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) TCOLE Advanced Peace Officer Certification (minimum level required for this role)
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages. Accomplishes the majority of work objectives through the management of direct reports. Provides day-to-day direction to staff; may become directly involved, as required, to meet schedules and resolve problems. Responsible for assigning work, meeting completion dates, interpreting and ensuring application of policies and procedures. Receives assignments in the form of objectives, with goals and the process by which to meet goals. Provides input to hiring, performance and budget.

Work is substantially complex, varied and regularly requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines.
