The Senior Health Information Tech provides clerical and analysis support to the Health Information Management Department. In addition, the Sr. Tech will generate reports, perform electronic document validation and assist with the ongoing training of staff and clinicians on the electronic health record system.
Essential Duties:
- Analyze the Electronic Health Record for completion and distribute communication in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. Meets department quality and productivity standard.
- Performs analysis of inpatient accounts and accurately assigns deficiencies to the appropriate provider of care.
- Performs analysis of ambulatory accounts and accurately assigns deficiencies to the appropriate provider of care.
- Provides accurate summary of document status and tracking detail to support coding and compliance.
- Utilizes and logs all forms of communication to track and follow up on incomplete documentation.
- Compile and validate report data for accurate Physician Suspension Status.
- Understands policies, procedures, and priorities; seeking clarification as needed.
- Proficient in the Electronic Health Record functionality.
- Report and troubleshoot issues with the Electronic Health Record functionality.
- Analyze and process transcribed reports placed on hold for quality and accurate placement in Electronic Health Record in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system. Meets department quality and productivity standard.
- Meets productivity and quality standards.
- Prioritize processing of transcribed reports in compliance with turnaround times to support quality patient care.
- Analyze and process transcribed reports for accurate placement in the EHR and distribution.
- Proficient in the Transcription System functionality.
- Report and troubleshoot issues with the Transcription system functionality.
- Provides customer service.
- Assist medical and hospital staff and visitors promptly and efficiently.
- Understands the hospital Dictation System and how to locate dictations.
- Participates in continuously assessing and improving departmental performance.
- Works and communicates in a positive manner with management and supervisory staff, medical staff, co-workers and other healthcare personnel.
- Performs other duties as requested/assigned by Director, Supervisor or designee.
- Process Protected Health Information data in compliance with regulatory requirements of the health care system and from unauthorized access and use.
- File and Store Records in an organized method to allow ease of retrieval and accessibility in an efficient manner.
- Understands and practices proper release of information for patients and/or requestors in compliance with confidentiality policies and regulations.
- Process and maintain medical records in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system for entry into the Electronic Health Record database. Meets quality and productivity standards.
- Locate, retrieve, and deliver medical records.
- Reconcile and maintain accurate task queues of records to be processed and entered into the Electronic Health Record.
- Analyze reports to determine status of records to be processed and entered into the Electronic Health Record.
- Understands policies, procedures, and priorities; seeking clarification as needed.
- Prepare Records for Scanning; Inpatient, Ambulatory, Clinic, Loose.
- Scan and upload records into the Electronic Health Record; Inpatient, Ambulatory, Clinic, Loose.
- Quality Check Records for accuracy and quality; Inpatient, Ambulatory, Clinic, Loose.
- Validate and Index Records; Inpatient, Ambulatory, Clinic, Loose.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req High school or equivalent
- Req 1 year Experience in Health Information Management in an acute care facility.
- Req Electronic Health Record/Cerner experience.
- Req Customer Service experience
- Req Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel), PC literacy.
- Req Typing speed 60 wpm.
- Req Advanced writing and communication skills
- Req Organization/time management skills.
- Req Able to function independently and as a member of a team.
- Req Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Req Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.

Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The hourly rate range for this position is $19.00 - $29.77.
