Example of Duties
Basic Job Description: The successful candidate for Parks Department General Maintenance/Equipment Operator will perform the following duties:
Operate most any and all types of equipment to perform general maintenance, construction, renovation and repairs of all park facilities as a member of park maintenance crew at all county Park sites and beaches; must be able to operate equipment such as Bobcat / skid steer, excavator, dump truck, backhoe, trencher, front end loader, tractor, forklift, zero-turn mower, and other machinery. Must be able to back a trailer. Knowledge of basic plumbing, basic electrical, construction, grounds work, hand tools, etc., is a plus.
Position will typically involve daily travel in park vehicle along with crew members to various job sites, park locations and beaches for maintenance and facility repairs, project development, etc.
Assist as needed on Park maintenance, repair and construction projects, which may include mowing and weed-eating, plumbing repair, building repair, picking up trash, cleaning park facilities grounds, and other duties.
Assist with maintenance and repairs of Park equipment and vehicles as needed.
Employee must be willing to work non-traditional schedule such as four, 10-hour day shifts that begin at 6 a.m., occasional evening, weekend and holiday projects, and work outdoors in all manner of elements and weather conditions, sometimes with tight deadlines to serve the public interest.
This position will also assist with various Park special events when needed, such as fishing, archery and community outreach events.
This position may also help manage probationer and community service workers while they are on site in the park to assist with park maintenance, etc.
Other duties may be assigned by Parks Dept senior staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:high school diploma or G.E.D. required. At least two years’ experience as an equipment operator, in maintenance, repair or construction trade areas, and to those with crew leadership experience, or previous experience working at a parks, recreation, wildlife/fisheries agency, road and bridge department, or public works department. A current Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
Comply with all Brazoria County policies such as a uniform dress code, background check and drug screening.
Supplemental Information
Salary range: Grade 30, $37,596 to$44,891 per year ($18.08-21.59/hourly), depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits package, and is a full-time, 40-hour per week, position which may or may not supervise other positions.
Supervisor: Parks General Maintenance/Equipment Operator position reports directly to Parks Lead Maintenance Foreman and Parks Deputy Director.
