The School of Data Science at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a Grants and Contracts Administrator who can perform primarily pre-award research administration tasks in support of and in collaboration with the School of Data Science research administration team. This position aims to attract career-minded professionals who are interested in a research administration career pathway that supports academic research faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will be a motivated learner, excited by working with a high performing team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The candidate will be able to work with a large customer base by communicating clearly, professionally, and confidently in both written and oral communication. The learning curve for the research administration field is often protracted due to the constantly changing nature of the knowledge base. In particular, the School of Data Science pursues sponsored research funding with a wide variety of federal sponsors (including NSF, DoD/DARPA, NIH, NEH, and DOE), as well as with other philanthropy and industry sponsors, and thus the incumbent must have an entrepreneurial spirit to handle the varied workflow. Critical thinking, multi-tasking, and practicality are necessary skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Prepare/manage numerous proposal submissions, including completing forms, preparing letters, uploading proposal documents into Huron and/or sponsor portals, and interpreting guidelines for the Principal Investigator.
Prepare, review, and revise grant budgets.
Review proposals for conformity with University, State, and Sponsor guidelines.
Resolve problems through contact with the SDS Director of Research Administration, OSP or the faculty investigator(s) and recommend appropriate changes.
Provide technical and administrative assistance to faculty and administrators in regard to sponsor regulations/requirements.
Provide information on policy and procedure interpretation, new regulations, and new processes to faculty. Interpret sponsor requirements and regulations independently.
Prepare and review funding reports, final invention statements, and progress reports.
Maintain complete and accurate file, communication, and database information.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree
At least three years of grant and contract or related experience. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
Strong working knowledge of budget creation for sponsored research proposals.
Experience with Huron, Research.gov, Grants.gov, and eRA Commons.
Anticipated hiring range: $53,000 - $73,000
