Deals directly with the public mainly over the phone in giving out general information, answering questions, and gathering facts and pertinent information regarding various City services, problems and complaints. Relays calls of emergency nature to 911 emergency communication personnel. Enters information obtained from callers onto a computerized intake form and electronically forwards requests to appropriate City departments for response and resolution. Provides information regarding City programs and services, special events and other City sponsored activities. Provides general information and telephone numbers for various City, county, state and federal offices and other agencies. Operates a variety of office equipment such as personal computers with standard and customized business software, on-line terminal, printer, photocopier, facsimile, scanner and calculator. Maintains various records. Performs a variety of activities related to processing customer requests such as searching records for property ownership verification, answering and updating calls for service, answering questions from field personnel via telephone and computers, etc. Performs related work as required.
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED and a minimum of one year of paid experience in responsible office support work.
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and the operation of standard office equipment. Knowledge of City ordinances, rules and regulations related to City services. Knowledge of the function and services of various City departments and local agencies. Some knowledge of the geographic layout and boundaries of the City of Akron including locations of streets, major intersections, subdivisions, important buildings and major landmarks.
Skill in the timely operation of personal computers and related software for entering, retrieving and evaluating requests for service. Skill in the use of standard and specialized office equipment for purposes of communication, data entry and retrieval, duplicating and word processing. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working communications with other persons. Ability to speak explicitly and to maintain courteous, tactful and effective public relations under high volume conditions.

The selection process will consist of a competitive examination with credit for education and experience. A passing score must be obtained on the competitive examination in order to receive credit for education and experience. TEST WEIGHTS: Competitive Examination 70%, Education 20%, Experience 10%.
Candidates must meet the qualifications and requirements listed in the announcement at the time of examination and at the time of appointment.
RESIDENCY: Candidates who have been resident citizens within the corporate limits of the City of Akron for at least one year immediately prior to the examination and who continue to reside within the corporate limits of the City of Akron throughout the remainder of the selection process will have 5 points added to their passing grades. VETERANS: A veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States, honorably discharged from active duty, desiring a bonus of 5 points added to his/her passing grade, must submit proof of discharge in the form of a DD-214 with application.
