SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION/UNIT
The UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies is an academic center that promotes the study of modern Israel at UCLA and beyond. Its institutional home on campus is the UCLA International Institute, comprised of many centers that focus on the study of individual countries or regions of the world. The Nazarian Center sponsors courses about Israel for UCLA students; generates and disseminates academic research in the field of Israel Studies; organizes frequent public programs, and hosts visiting scholars, writers, and artists. The center also provides grants to UCLA faculty and students for research and study in Israel and the development of new courses about Israel. Through its research, teaching, and outreach, the Nazarian Center has become an internationally known source of expertise and education about Israel and an intellectually vibrant home for Israel Studies at UCLA.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Y&S Nazarian Center seeks an Assistant Researcher I to conduct research on racial and gender equality policies in Israel and the United States, with a specific emphasis on gender violence and equitable representation, as well as human rights issues in Israel more broadly. The Assistant Researcher will present their research results at lecture series, meetings and conferences. They will prepare papers for publication in professional journals in Israel Studies, Gender Studies, Human Rights, or related fields. They will also publish articles and op-eds related to their area of expertise. On occasion, they will give talks to various community groups and represent the Y&S Nazarian Center in interviews in American and Israeli media on topics related to current developments in Israeli politics and society.
QUALIFICATIONS
• A Ph.D. in Political Science or Sociology with a specialization in Human Rights. • A demonstrated track record of research publications commensurate with their level of experience. • Fluency in both English and Hebrew, enabling effective communication and collaboration within diverse academic and community contexts. • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, essential for representing the Y&S Nazarian Center within the university, engaging with the broader community, and participating in media engagements. • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as a team member. • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
