Uses skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations professional to manage, plan and administer the operations of a small to mid-sized academic or non-academic department or organizational unit with limited scope. May report to a chair, director, or a higher level administrative operations professional or manager. Perform short- and long-term planning for the organization. May supervise staff or students. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The incumbent will work closely with the Director to establish organizational goals and objectives and administer the Sandler Asthma Basic Research (SABRE) Center, including all Center programs and operations (personnel, finance and facilities).
With a group of nine academic in-residence faculty researchers and their working laboratories and personnel, the SABRE Center is involved in asthma research using innovative and collaborative approaches in the basic science of asthma.
The incumbent will also directly support the Director and the operations of his laboratory, located on a different floor of the same building as the SABRE Center. The lab investigates the cellular and molecular underpinnings of allergic immunity and consists of three faculty researchers, two research specialists, two postdocs, and two lab technicians. This position will require the incumbent to be flexible in attending to the needs of both the Center and the laboratory, and use sound judgment to independently prioritize tasks as needed.
Specific duties include but are not limited to: responsibility for long and short term planning, fiscal management of about $5 million in funds annually from multiple sources; ensure adequate fiscal reserves; perform oversight management for all Center and Lab finances and personnel, space, facilities and equipment; faculty recruitment;, teaching, and personnel collaboration with other campus departments including core facilities at Parnassus and Mission Bay; liaise between faculty and staff, HHMI (Howard Hughes Medical Institute) and representation of the Center to campus units and external agencies; ensure optimal administrative systems for HR, finance, IT, research administration, faculties and space.

Basic Accounting Principles
Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs
Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management
Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Minimum of 3 years of related experience
