The Microfluidics and Systems Technologies Lab at HP Laboratories, Palo Alto, California, is seeking an outstanding lab manager and process engineer to support and accelerate our cutting-edge research and development on novel chemical sensors and microfluidic devices. We are looking for a candidate who is skilled at developing cleanroom processes for thin film deposition and etching and micro/nanoscale patterning, and skilled at using supporting analytical tools. The process engineer will work with and support R&D scientists in designing new processes, evaluating results, training and supporting new users, and designing new experiments and devices. A successful candidate will also have demonstrated leadership skills and a desire to oversee complex operations in an advanced research environment, including vendor management, equipment repairs and general operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and evaluate new thin film deposition and etching and micro/nanofabrication processes
Develop standard protocols for cleanroom equipment and train new users
Troubleshoot equipment and process failures
Oversee cleanroom operations
Maintain a safe and clean working environment
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in engineering or related fields.
3 - 5 years of experience (post-graduation) working in advanced research laboratories.
Experience with analytical techniques, including ellipsometry, EDX, AFM and SEM
Highly self-motivated; track record of effective collaboration with colleagues from a range of technological / scientific disciplines
Ability to apply good judgment, make recommendations and independent decisions, and work independently
Meticulous documentation and excellent communication skills
PREFERRED
Experience working in a cleanroom research environment
Experience working with biofluids.
Experience working in a clean room.

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $118,000 -- $181,000 annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
