Job Abstract

Reporting to a Manager of Planning, Design & Construction, the Project Manager will be responsible for managing all of UCLA Health System design and construction projects and construction services provided by outside contractors; UCLA Capital Programs; and UCLA Campus Facilities. Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to the following: manage multiple construction projects occurring throughout the multiple hospital UCLA Health System; detailed knowledge of all aspects of building systems and codes sufficient to plan, direct and manage medical projects, evaluate progress and ensure that craftwork meets stated and required standards; demonstrate working knowledge of construction trade practices and safety requirements sufficient to manage all phases of project planning, construction and renovation in an occupied medical facility; manage the process of multi-craft estimates, work scopes, budget and schedules; manage project related delays or disruptions and bring to closure within stated timeframes and guidelines; demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for project execution through planning, phasing and complex problem solving to ensure patient and staff safety in an occupied healthcare setting and demonstrate working knowledge of technical building systems incorporating sophisticated designs or highly specialized and critical components/medical equipment. The Project Manager will also need to show skill in managing all administrative and technical aspects of construction and alterations projects in a medical healthcare environment. Knowledge of Joint Commission, HCAI (OSHPD) Administrative Code, applicable NFPA Codes, and California Building Codes as applied to ongoing planning, alteration, and renovation projects will also be needed.

In addition, Mathematical and accounting skills are needed to sufficiently prepare and monitor budgets. Ability to exercise sound time-management skills, control projects and work proactively to mitigate complications that may jeopardize project productivity. Proven ability to maintain equanimity in the face resistance or indifference with regard to project planning and technical building systems. The Project Manager will independently perform full range of responsibilities; may oversee a project team consisting of other Facilities and IT Project Managers, and clinical/nursing/general services leaders and personnel.

Pay Range: $73900 - $170700 Annually

Required:

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/training, and demonstrated three to five years professional experience in architecture, engineering or construction.

Experience with design development projects.

Experience with multiphase or specialty construction projects.

Experience with construction in an occupied healthcare facility.

Proven ability to manage contractors and maintain compliance to the budget and scope of work.

Experience with large-scale relocation activities.

Exercise independent technical judgment using knowledge of architectural and construction industry theory and practice.

Ability to read and understand legal and technical documents.

Ability to develop schematic drawings from client-provided information.

Working knowledge of building codes, UCLA standards and handicapped access regulations.

Working knowledge of hospital projects, the California Building Code, Title 22, and the requirements of HCAI (OSHPD).

Ability to organize, facilitate, and expedite the work of others.

Thorough project management skills to effectively manage highly complex projects, or highly specialized and critical project component.

Knowledge of MS Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint as well as working knowledge of CAD drawing programs, architectural design application programs, and Bluebeam.
