Boeing Research and Technology is looking for an experienced Thermal Development Lab Operations Systems Engineer (Experienced or Senior) in El Segundo, CA. This Position is for 2nd shift.
In pursuit of Boeing's research and business interests, the successful candidate will:
Support Leadership of laboratory operations for a state of the art Thermal lab for testing refrigeration and other thermal control technologies across the Boeing enterprise and at business partner and teammate facilities in support of multiple current and future business opportunities.
Work both independently and as part of a team environment
Support leadership of a team performing activities within multiple Engineering and Operations disciplines.
Provide critical support and independent technical, cost and schedule review of the work of teams and teammates.
Develops and documents standardized test methods and processes to ensure repeatability and productivity. Leads the development of test procedures.
Applies lessons learned to the improvement of test procedures. Designs calibration system/test fixtures.
Develops data processing tools and algorithms.
Generates calibration procedures and software.
Guides others in the design of test hardware, software and systems to achieve test requirements.
Oversees debriefing of the test team.
Leads the analysis, processing and formatting of data to customer requirements.
Approves test data prior to delivery to customer.
Formulates expectations for test data based on historical data.
Performs functions as required to ensure calibration system readiness and data validity.
Position Responsibilities:
Facility operations for Thermal & Refrigeration laboratory with responsibilities including procedure development, preparation, & execution, operations planning, maintenance planning, maintenance oversight, and support staff scheduling. Candidate will represent facility to user community, evaluate requests for additional services, and devise methods of delivering high value capabilities within cost and schedule constraints.
Facility consists of compressors, pumps, piping systems, instrumentation and control systems involving multiple process flows
Provide 24/7 operations of facility. On-call to respond to alarm conditions.
Develops and recommends facility reliability and capability improvements. Researches technologies related to facilities, shares learning with others and trains personnel regarding operation and maintenance of assets.
Support Procedure development for thermal lab with 24/7 operations. Inclusive of procedures to provide environmental health and safety for high pressure and low pressure lines.
Support development of cost model for plant operations and regular maintenance.
Support development of methods to monitor facility data for system health monitoring and for increasing operations efficiency. Identifies and characterized potential operations improvements via automation.
Support material ordering of gases and fluids including hazardous material.
Responsible for hazardous waste identification, storage, and collection.
Responsible for facility safety and ensuring operations and maintenance are performed in a safe manner.
Provides oversight and integrates supplier activities. Participates in support supplier selection and oversight.
Participate with other team personnel to determine the cause of asset failures and reduction in asset capacity
Manage project expenditures within authorized budgets. Creates, maintains, and communicates project management information
Support additional operations team staffing as required.
Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical personnel at all organization levels including suppliers and customers
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
5+ years of operations experience with facilities consisting of compressors, pumps, piping systems, instrumentation and control systems involving multiple liquid and gas process flows
5+ years of experience with industrial instrumentation and controls hardware
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
9+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in new technology or product/capability development
5+ years of experience with both high (greater than atmospheric) and low pressure (vacuum) systems is preferred.
5+ years of experience with liquid and gas distribution systems.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot system faults and develop preventative maintenance plans is preferred.
Adjudicated Counter Intelligence scope polygraph completed within the last 5 years
A current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program is desired.
Typical Education and Experience:
Experienced: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Senior: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range Experienced: $126,000 – $171,000
Summary pay range Senior: $155,000 - $210,00
