Job Abstract

Under supervision of Director of Data Operations, the Business Intelligence Developer will work with multiple divisions at UCLA Health to understand business requirements, translate them into technical specifications and formulate startegies for report curation.  The BI developer will work with peers within the Data Operations team to participate in data warehouse design, data lineage documentation, and cube creation for data consumption layer development.        

This role requires the use of modern Business Intelligence tools including but not limted to SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, to create dashboards, reports, and analytics that support David Geffen School of Medicine Dean’s Office various analytic needs.  This analytic position requires strategic thinking to provide required BI analytics for the Dean’s Office. The BI developer works with departments to identify their data needs, and works with team members in Data Operations to provision access and create business data analytics deliverables.

This position is responsible for requirements gathering, designing, programming, unit testing, and working with end users to deploy reporting data models and analytics.  BI Developer will be responsible for analyzing the requests and working with the Director of Data Operations to prioritize projects. Incumbent must be familiar with BI design and development methodologies as well as be willimg to work within an agile project oriented environment.  This position requires the developer to work one on one with department customers and IT staff in order to produce deliverables.

The BI developer role is a hybrid position that requires a seasoned business professional with experience in finance and health science data analysis, as well as experience in modern business intelligence analytics.  This position works within On-Prem and Cloud data environments, must be familiar with BI tools such as Tableau, PBI, and RStudio.

Candidates should have a Bachelor of Science degree, Masters Preferred; degree should be in engineering, science, computer science, education, research; with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in finance or healthcare industry preferred. 

Experience with RDBMS database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Teradata, Netezza etc.).

Experience with NoSQL database systems (HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB etc.) and distributed file system.

Expert knowledge of SQL, relational and dimensional data modeling, and data cube designs multi-dimensional vs. columnar.

Experience with the full Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau, SRSS, Power BI, and/or QlikView with proven ability to use tools to guide decision making.

Familiar with DAX, MDX expressions.

Detailed working knowledge of programming/scripting languages including PL/SQL, T-SQL, Python (Javascript, Java, C#, Ruby familiarity preferred).

Experience in Financial reporting, academic, and Clinical reporting.

Familiar with R, SAS, among other statistical software.

Experience working with data from the following sectors: healthcare, education, and financial.

Experience in Financial reporting, academic, and Clinical reporting.

Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

Excellent communication skill is required for this position with the ability to manage multiple requests. This position must be able to provide expert level recommendation on visualizations and best practices support distributed BI developers outside of unit.
