The CCO must possess a combination of skills and abilities to successfully manage a complex set of responsibilities in a high profile, academic health sciences organization, including extensive corporate compliance experience in health care, preferably in an academic health sciences setting with a demonstrated understanding of all elements of corporate compliance in relationship to practice plan management and health care delivery, including strategy, business planning, operations and finance.
The CCO will have knowledge of federal and state health services regulations, including Medicare and Medi-Cal, third party payers, HIPAA and state privacy rules and regulations and other external agencies and businesses. The successful candidate will also be familiar with the issues and challenges facing the clinical, education, research and community outreach components of the Health Sciences and possess the ability to adopt corporate compliance efforts to effectively respond to changes in health care and research practices, legal/regulatory changes and technological trends.
Other critical competencies include the ability to integrate functions across units in a complex multi-mission organization, communicate with diverse groups both within and outside of the University, build a climate of trust, and inspire others to accomplish results. The CCO must demonstrate and set high standards of behavior, performance, quality, credibility and integrity; they are also expected to uphold an ongoing commitment to meeting affirmative action goals in recruitment, selection and development of staff.
A Juris Doctor, Master’s degree in Business, Health Care Administration, Public Health or equivalent experience is preferred. CHC, CHC-F, CHRC and / or CCEP is also preferred.
