The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) organization is seeking a highly motivated leader and experienced Product Chief Engineer located in El Segundo, CA. You will work as part of the chief engineering team supporting satellite programs.
In this role, you will be responsible for technical leadership, problem resolution, and support of engineering processes associated with program baselines, change board and Risk, Issue, Opportunity (RIO) management, Enterprise Standard Gated Process (ESGP) preparation and reviews, Root Cause Analysis / Corrective Action (RCCA) recovery planning and status reporting. You will also be responsible for technical leadership and guidance to the program and product area’s multi-disciplinary IPT teams (engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and production control) through product and satellite production, test, and launch.
Position Responsibilities:
- Ensure commonality within product lines through early participation in unit development
- Regularly assess and steer product roadmaps so that the technology and complexity promote common product lines
- Accountable for technical leadership, problem resolution, and engineering processes associated with development, integration, and test of spacecraft products
- Implement a comprehensive root cause and corrective action process and discipline to address all significant technical issues on the program
- Implement and enforce engineering functional excellence in people, processes, tools, and practices; drive productivity improvements through the use of the Lean+ disciplines; and share Best Practices and Lessons Learned
- Responsible for preventing traveled technical risk and ensuring that technical risks/issues are driven rapidly to closure. This might require to stop or delay downstream program efforts while the risk/issue is being resolved
- Chair and participate on Engineering Review Boards (ERB) to ensure changes do not create one-off solutions that affect unit commonality and provide recommendations to the program office for actions presented at the Change Control Board (CCB).
- Chair and participate on Technical Readiness Reviews (TRR) and Failure Review Boards (FRB).
- Work closely with IPT leads to achieve balanced cost, schedule, and technical decisions as well as actively manage risk, issues, and opportunities from a cost and technical perspective.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
Work Authorization:
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry
- 10 or more years of experience working with satellites or other autonomous unmanned systems
- 5 or more years of experience performing in a leadership role
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 10 or more years of engineering experience on spacecraft programs.
- 5 or more years of demonstrated leadership developing and/or delivering flight vehicle hardware
- Experience with flight hardware integration and test, anomaly resolution, and flight readiness preparation
- Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Relocation:

Summary pay range: 150,450 - 203,550
