About the Job Sandy Spring Bank is hiring a SBA Loan Coordinator and Closer Team Leader. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the SBA Loan Coordinators and Closers in their day to day job functions. Supervision of the team not limited to loan portfolio administration and servicing of U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Guaranteed loans, both secured and unsecured to ensure all SBA guaranteed loans are properly managed according to the SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Sandy Spring Bank credit and risk policies. MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: Loan Closing/ Processing (40%) Understands credit risks and is able to structure complex commercial SBA loans with little supervision. Has a firm understanding of loan policy. Able to understand complex legal issues as it pertains to SBA requirements associated with real estate collateral; ability to research and understand implications of liens; judgments, tax sales, chain of title, encroachments, easements and lawsuits; well versed in other issues such as environmental due diligence. Interacts at a high level with Bank appointed counsel and is effective with minimal supervision. Coordinating closings for new and renewed loans; Interfaces directly with the borrower and attorneys as needed to assemble additional supporting information and due diligence required for closing; prepares boarding sheet for attorney prepared loans. Reviews internally and attorney prepared loan documents for accuracy and review of title work. Assists with the preparation of commitment letters; orders environmental reports and evaluations/ appraisals; Requests field exams; Prepares adverse action letters, closing instruction letters; attends commercial closings when needed; Sends all decline/ withdrawn files to File Management. Portfolio Administration (20%) Follows established policies and procedures to ensure that all SBA Loan applications are processed and serviced in compliance with established SBA policies and procedures Works with Contacts client for required covenant tracking and renewal information within established guidelines Maintains the quality of credit files and completes periodic file reviews Processes and monitors new SBA loan requests for Sandy Spring Bank credit decision Works in conjunction with LSP in preparation of SBA loan application for submission to SBA Manages SBA loan closing process, working closely with SSB Loan Administration and outside counsel to ensure timely and accurate loan closing and disbursement procedures complying with SBA SOP and Bank policies Oversees and reviews policies, procedures, and processes to identify areas to improve efficiencies Maintenance and Servicing (10%) Maintains distinctive level of client services that meets or exceeds both internal and external client expectations Promptly responds to client questions and requests Works in cooperation with SBA RM, Loan Administration, SBA Portfolio Managers and Business Consultants to resolve questions, complaints, and or errors Resolves problems on accounts to the satisfaction of the client and benefit to the company Portfolio Management Reporting (10%) Develops and distributes portfolio-monitoring reports to Directors, SBA Portfolio Managers, and Business Consultants, maintains daily tracking reports to ensure proper follow through on all applications from initial request through to loan closing Demonstrates an understanding of SBA Guaranteed loan servicing and reporting requirements. Prepares monthly 1502 status report Responds to audits and collection requests Leadership (15%) Provide coaching, training and assistance for direct reports and other commercial and credit team members to develop knowledge, skills and abilities to maximize performance and potential. Document performance and complete performance review forms in a timely manner. Complies with all aspects of performance management to include establishing annual goals and performance objectives for each team member and conducting regular documented performance reviews (1:1s) and annual, documented performance appraisals. In addition, responsible for the team’s professional development and through ongoing performance evaluations, identify areas of professional growth and in response, relevant training opportunities. Collaborates with the Director of Portfolio Administration regarding resource management within the region as needed as well as to ensure equitable workflow among the PA team members. Addresses personnel issues promptly and consistently. Ability to lead a team through a fast paced/high volume environment with the ability to resolve challenges, communicate clearly and foster a positive environment with a focus on professional development as well as accountability. Client Contact/ Engagement (5%) Interacts as a key Relationship Partner with all Bank Clients, participates in joint business calls with RM/PM teams, all on an as needed basis. Maintains a high level of professionalism and courtesy with clientele and internal partners at all times. Other duties as may be assign Required Skills KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Work requires a broad level of professional experience in a related field with a minimum of 12 years work experience in commercial lending, commercial banking, retail banking, or underwriting. Position requires experience in commercial lending, with a specialized focus in SBA7(a) and SBAExpress Loans (80% focus). A minimum of 5 years leadership experience Ability to utilize standard PC based software to prepare correspondence, reports and other documents as needed. Strong communication skills are needed to effectively work with internal/external clients to explain products and interpret policy. Advanced problem solving skills are needed to find solutions to problems that are technically complex and require collection, interpretation, and analysis of data from diverse sources is required. Work is under minimal supervision, where the work requires independent judgment in the interpretation of existing policies and procedures and the selection of alternative work routines. SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements. Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions. Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.
