Kimley-Horn is looking for an Experienced Public Involvement Specialist in the Reston, Virginia (VA) office! This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
Develop and foster meaningful relationships with clients, stakeholders, and the communities we serve.
Develop and implement strategic communications and engagement plans that address the needs and include the voices of diverse communities.
Manage project outreach activities including managing public engagement, preparing presentations, communicating with community members, businesses, and organizations to explain the project scope, impacts, benefits, mitigations, etc.
Support the development and facilitation of events including public open houses, workshops, public hearings, neighborhood meetings, ground breakings, ribbon cuttings, conferences, one-on-one meetings stakeholder meetings and other public events.
Develop public-facing materials including postcards, fact sheets, emails, and announcements.
Support and monitor scheduling and production deadlines to meet internal and external client requests for communications materials.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
Assist with construction coordination efforts with contractors.
Perform project management duties such as managing large tasks and projects, performing research, report writing, leading public involvement meetings, and maintaining client relations.
Mentor and develop staff in an environment that encourages teamwork, initiative, and growth.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in communications and/or outreach with infrastructure, transportation, or other complex projects
Construction communications experience
Bachelors or Master Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs, Planning, Government Relations, or related field
Exceptional command of English, with excellent written/oral communication and proofing skills. Experience writing for multiple audiences and presenting technical concepts in a clear and concise structure
Excellent people skills include communicating, listening, and summarizing information, documenting interactions, and problem-solving or reducing conflicts
Customer service mindset
Ability to interface with a variety of clients and the public
Experience with the development and implementation of public outreach and or communications plans.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
Flexibility to periodically work outside regular working hours and travel, as required for business needs. Must have a valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and insurance (we reimburse mileage)
