THE POSITION
CLERK (LIMITED TERM)
THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TERM AND INTENDED FOR A SPECIFIED AND LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME UP TO ONE YEAR AND MAY BE EXTENDED FOR AN ADDITIONAL YEAR.
This is an entry level position that requires limited knowledge and skills but has the opportunity to learn office procedures and the use of equipment on the job. This position may be assigned to various departments each having a different group of work tasks. Current vacancy is in the Housing and Human Services Department.
The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
Performs as a receptionist exhibiting tact and courtesy in dealing with and screening members of the public. Answers telephone calls from the public. Makes a strong effort to understand the specific needs of the public and refers them to the appropriate departmental staff member to resolve their problem or answer their questions.
Completes printing jobs using photocopying and other duplicating machines at a reasonable pace and within promised delivery times. Produces high quality printed copies. When required, collates and binds printed material correctly.
Distributes incoming mail and processes outgoing mail.
Keeps filing up to date as required. Correctly uses the filing system, and keeps the files in a logical order so they are readily retrievable.
As required, tallies, balances, and posts routine financial and other data with a high degree of accuracy and consistent with established deadlines.
Monitors levels of stock of office supplies. Consistently records the inventory and the users of the supplies, and orders additional supplies to ensure the inventory is not exhausted. Distributes supplies to users in the department.
Minimum Requirements: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: graduation from high school or equivalent, preferably with some business/secretarial course work.

Background/ Reference Check: Upon a conditional job offer, a live scan finger printing must be completed with acceptable results.
