SUMMARY: Incumbents supervise the day-to-day operations of the Forestry Division including but not limited to: communicating and interacting with citizens, training new employees, giving daily work assignments, hazard tree analysis, preventative tree maintenance, material and supply ordering, preparing reports, applying for grants, coordinating work efforts and supporting other divisions, and all other supervisory responsibilities.

Must be on call 24 Hours a day/365 Days a year to respond to emergencies
Performs inspections of completed work in assigned area of responsibility
Assists in developing and monitoring the division budget
Receives and resolves complaints related to activities in assigned area of responsibility
Leads and directs personnel assigned to a specific detail in the daily functions and operations of a Forestry Division work crew to ensure safe, effective, and efficient operations
Performs thorough reviews of all equipment to be operated to ensure all appropriate servicing is maintained
Assists in identifying and securing necessary equipment for each assigned project
Uses a computer to develop basic spreadsheets, memos, and electronic communications in the execution of various assigned tasks
Completes a variety of logs, documents, and/or simple reports regarding quantity of materials handled, equipment operations, miles driven, fuel and oil used, and/or other related information
Monitors and maintains materials, inventory, and supplies; coordinates the purchase of materials and supplies within established guidelines
Attends all required meetings and training as they apply to this position
Oversees landscape and irrigation projects
Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of:

Equipment, tools, and materials utilized in the Tree Care and Green Industry
Occupational hazards and related safety precautions common to municipal tree care
Thorough knowledge of tree work
Maintenance equipment
Hand and power tools
Safe work practices
Hazards, safety rules, and practices of performing work in, on, or around streets open to through traffic
Tree maintenance, including but not limited to: pruning, removal, cabling, climbing, aerial truck operations; inspection of contractual services; street tree data collection; and tree insect and disease abatement

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D., and five years of professional experience in the tree industry. Associates degree or higher in arboriculture, horticulture or a related field. Previous supervisory experience is a plus. CERTIFICATION/ LICENSURE: Must have a valid International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification or ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and a valid Ohio Commercial Class B driver license.
