The mission of the Culver City Fire Department is to protect life, property, and the environment by providing prompt and professional fire protection and life safety services.
GENERAL DUTIES:
Provide public assistance on the telephone and at the public counter to developers, architects, and property owners by providing information related to procedures and policies for fire prevention permits & hazardous materials.
Assist Permit Tech with various administrative duties - Accept & review fire & building and plan check applications. Maintain a log of application submittals. File and/or route plans and applications to City departments and staff.
Verify state contractor’s licenses, business licenses, and certificates of insurance for contractors working in the City.
Operate a computer terminal to input and retrieve departmental information. Preferred proficiency in computer programs: Accela, Lancet, JDE, Microsoft Office programs.
Prepare numeric and other required reports such as public records requests, fire incident report requests, memos, correspondence, proclamations & documents in connection with annual Fire Prevention Week & Fire Service Day, quarterly occupancy reports to the Battalion Chiefs & dispatch.
Process, track, and correct all invoices relating to monthly fire inspection fees. Process quarterly fire inspection billing for Sony Studios. Process invoices for OTC issued by FP Inspectors.
Receive calls & gather information regarding complaints for reported fire hazards. Maintain complaint call log.
Assure that Fire Prevention filing is kept up to date.
Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of the Division’s processing activities.
Maintain an up-to-date supply of office supplies, public information handouts, and applications.
Provide Administrative Support to Suppression Companies and Training Officers when necessary.
Service apparatus and portable radios and Mobile Data Computers (MDCs).
Maintenance of the Fire Garage.
General mechanical apparatus maintenance.
Fire Hydrant maintenance.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Regular part-time position working approximately 28-39 hours per week. Schedules may vary depending on the needs of the department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the knowledge, skill, and ability would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skill, and ability would be:
A high school diploma or equivalent. Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES
Suitability for the position will be evaluated by an application review. This evaluation will be qualifying. Those deemed qualified will be invited to the Oral Appraisal Interview. The Oral Appraisal Interview will evaluate training, experience, and personal qualifications.
