Description
Position Summary:
The Textile Designer reports to the VP, Design & Development in our Laguna Beach design studio. The textile designer is responsible for working closely with our automotive customers to develop innovative and appealing textile products by creating original as well as enhancing existing visual designs for fabrics and patterns.
Responsibilities:
Works collaboratively with our Automotive OEM Design customers in the USA and globally to design textile fabrics and designs based on the direction of the customer.
Creates visual presentations for each project, incorporating innovative design trends into all new product development using the appropriate software (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, and PowerPoint).
Follows each project from concept through production ensuring quality and design specifications are being met.
Works in partnership with the VP of Design and Development, Sales, and Materials Engineering through all stages of development.
Applies focused and detailed knowledge of consumer design trends and forecasting to all work produced and presented; this may require extensive research of product quality, cost/pricing, and availability.
Benchmark competitive vehicles that will aid in a competitive design direction.
Support the distribution of design samples to customers, and the maintenance of e-files & textile archives.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Textile Design preferred.
Experience designing textiles in the automotive industry is required; must be comfortable interfacing with all levels of the OEM automotive organization(s).
Experience directly presenting design ideas to Automotive OEM Design clients using PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite software and other appropriate software as needed.
The ability to develop new textile with an emphasis on highly-marketable, innovative development Automotive Interiors through Warp Knitting – Tricot, Raschel, and Double Needle Bar and Jacquard Warp Knit.
Knowledge and experience of KARL MAYER Warp Knit software is a plus.
Must be customer focused and deadline driven.
Prior professional experience or strong comfort level working in a Corporate Design environment.
Stays current with trends and industry innovations.
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and ability to create Professional level PowerPoints for Automotive Design OEMS for client presentations.
Working Knowledge of Stoll 3D Knitting a plus.
Experience or ability to train in Warp Knitting software.
