Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary	In support of the Student Affairs Learning Outcomes, the Argyros Forum Student Union provides programs, resources, and services to cultivate students’ connection to the Chapman community, knowledge of on-campus involvement opportunities, investment in school spirit and pride, and understanding of the diversity within the Chapman student community. The Student Union Assistant is responsible for ensuring the efficient delivery of services and resources provided daily in the Argyros Forum Student Union, with an emphasis on supporting the day-to-day customer service needs of all visitors, staff, and building occupants. Along with professional staff and in collaboration with the entire Argyros Forum Student Union team, the Student Union Assistant strives to create a welcoming environment that will contribute to the University by building community, increasing students’ pride in their university, and ensuring facility operations are organized and supportive of evolving student needs. Student Union Assistants work on one of four teams: the civic engagement team, community building team, entertainment team, and operations and décor team.
Responsibilities	General Student Union Responsibilities Provide excellent, proactive customer service to all guests including accurate information to telephone and in-person questions regarding Chapman University and our facilities. Complete active laps to provide visual security of the facilities and their furnishings/equipment; monitor and address potential safety/liability problems, report repair needs. Ensure all equipment and furnishings are working properly and that facilities are clean and tidy. Promote programs and services and provide support for activities and events taking place in the facility. Post signs, daily schedules and other administrative tasks as required. Ensure programs/services are implemented in accordance with University policy. Attend all scheduled meetings and training sessions. Ensure appropriate use and return of Department of Student Engagement marketing materials. Assist in Department of Student Engagement department-wide events. Assist in other duties as assigned. Position-specific Responsibilities Civic Engagement Team Communicate and collaborate with campus partners and student organizations to promote non-partisan campus-wide voter registration and turnout opportunities. Programs include: debate and election night watch events, National Voter Registration Day celebration, Voter Education Week and Vote Early Day programming, and election day get-out-the-vote efforts. Coordinate and promote the Community Supported Agriculture program. Assist with the administration of the Global Citizens Wall Community Building Team Communicate and collaborate with campus partners and student organizations to promote community building experiences and programs within the facility during daytime and evening hours. Programs include: Back-to-the Union Bash, regional and/or interest-based socials, Thanksgiving in the Union, and passive programming to facilitate community building, Chapman pride, and students’ enjoyment of the union. Collaborate with student organizations to promote organization involvement Entertainment Team Communicate and collaborate with campus partners and student organizations to promote daytime and evening entertainment programs. Programs include: Regular movie screenings, live music performances, sporting event and award ceremony watch parties (e.g. Superbowl watch party, Academy Awards watch party, Grammy watch party) Coordinate daily music and television schedules to foster an atmosphere appropriate to the time of day and students’ routines. Schedules include: Sports in the Union television schedules and morning, lunchtime, and evening music and television schedules. Gallery and Décor Team Communicate and collaborate with campus partners and student organizations to promote representation of student identities and interests through rotating gallery exhibits and facility décor. Specific gallery exhibits and décor include: the I Am Chapman exhibit, Center for Global Education photo contest exhibit, Peer and Health Education’s What Were You Wearing? exhibit, Cheverton Award Nominee exhibit, cultural and religious décor reflective of heritage months and days of awareness, and Chapman-themes murals/artwork.
Required Qualifications	Availability to work at least one opening and one closing shift per week (Sunday – Saturday, 7:45am opening, closing 10:15pm) Ability to provide a minimum of 20 hours per week of availability Strong interpersonal and customer service skills Demonstrated ability to anticipate customer needs Dependability and accountability Initiative and the ability to work independently with little supervision Effective written and oral communication skills Time management skills Ability to manage conflict and apply feedback to work performance Attention to detail and ability to accept direction Punctuality Willingness to work and learn Ability to work evening and weekend hours as necessitated by programming and facility operating hours Ability to use standard office equipment including computer, copier, telephones Federal Work Study Award Minimum of a 2.5 GPA
