This is an exciting time to join the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, as the office embarks on the ambitious criminal justice reform agenda amidst the ongoing national conversation on race and the legacy of racism in the criminal justice system. After taking office in January 2020, Commonwealth’s Attorney Descano’s initiatives have included restructuring the office to produce accountability around reforms, issuing a comprehensive policy to address mass incarceration, and the formulation of a Justice Advisory Council, among others. His passion for reform and creating an atmosphere of diversity and fairness within the office has prompted the offices to seek team members with a passion for criminal justice reform and working to address racial and socioeconomic disparities in the local justice system. Receptionist in the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office with 34 attorneys and administrative staff. Performs clerical and administrative duties of a legal secretarial nature and related work as required.

General Financial Duties Uses spreadsheets or databases to organize information and produce standard reports; Prepares a variety of complex disbursement forms (e.g., check requests, travel forms, cash sheets, and journal entries) for routing and approval; May approve some disbursement forms; Compiles and maintains monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual totals, reports, and financial statements; Explains fiscal rules and procedures to employees to ensure uniform application.
Fiscal Administration Sets up accounts through corporate systems; Reconciles ledgers; Prepares status reports; Gathers data for use by others in preparing budget; Prepares transfer vouchers and interfund billing; Monitors external accounts for discrepancies.
Accounting Prepares wide variety of accounting forms; Reconciles daily receipts or accounts receivable/payable; Identifies discrepancies and makes corrections; Collects required documents; Prepares and authorizes expense vouchers and/or invoices within limited authorization levels.

Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and two years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates degree
Degree in Business administration, Public administration, Law, Legal studies, and/or Criminal justice studies.
At least two years of general administrative support experience in the assigned function areas.
At least two years of experience working in a court or legal environment.
At least two years of experience performing data entry.
At least three years of front-line customer service experience.
At least two years of experience assisting with computer related questions and issues.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with law enforcement personnel; work proficiently in a collaborative, team environment, engage people of various social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Maintain a fast-paced workload while keeping case files and workplace organized.
Ability to establish and maintain constructive, effective and professional relationships with fellow attorneys, public officials, judicial officers, and the public.
