Summary
Chat/Text Follow Up Counselors will provide follow-up via chat/text and utilize Crisis Chat and Text services to provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and resources to all help seekers. The position may be on-site with the option to work remotely. The pay for this position is $24.00 per hour with a $3.00 overnight differential.
Primary Duties
- Contacts help seekers and third parties who have expressed suicidal ideation within the past 24 hours and agreed to a follow up conversation.
- Maintains accurate and detailed chat/text reports. Documentation must be completed in real time.
- When not performing follow up contacts, the counselor will offer crisis counseling services via chat and text.
- Serves as a mandated reporter in cases of suspected abuse.
- Familiarity with available resources and providing information and referrals to visitors as appropriate.
- Completes safety assessment, safety planning and de-escalation with Chat/Text visitors.
- Monitors and measures client progress against safety plan and stated goals.
- Fulfills continuing education requirements as requested or required for the agency and the Suicide Prevention Center Division.
- Attends routinely scheduled meetings as requested or required for the Suicide Prevention Center and 988 Chat/Text Program.
- Assisting in the training process of new counselors.
Position Requirements
- Must be fluent in English.
- Successful completion of the SPC training program.
- Knowledge of all job specific skills including safety assessment, data collection and call triage.
- Ability to present ideas, information, and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Have strong interpersonal skills, interact well with others, and avoid personal conflicts.
- Support the values and mission of Didi Hirsch as related to employment.
- Know and comply with Agency policies, procedures, HIPAA, and other state, federal regulations relating to emergency mental health services.
- Demonstrates commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies.
- Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
- Must be 18 years old or older.
These requirements are met by possessing a high school degree or equivalent along with experience working in a mental health setting or as a crisis line volunteer.
