Created in 1993, LAHSA is a joint powers authority of the city and county of Los Angeles. As the lead agency in the HUD-funded Los Angeles Continuum of Care, we coordinate and manage over $800 million annually in federal, state, county, and city funds for programs providing shelter, housing, and services to people experiencing homelessness. The Government Affairs Department of the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) supports strategic initiatives throughout the agency, develops and maintains strategic partnerships and plays a key role in narrative setting through relational organizing. Under the direction of the Associate Director for Government and Community Relations, the Community Relations Coordinator (“coordinator”) will work across the County of Los Angeles and collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders to support compassionate solutions to homelessness.
Essential Job Functions
Community Engagement
Monitor, attend, and represent LAHSA at municipal meetings (local city councils, neighborhood councils, other civically based bodies).
Make public presentations and contextualize information during stakeholder meetings
Coordinate and facilitate meetings to serve strategic objectives of the agency
Maintain clear, concise, and composed communication despite stakeholder disposition
Be proactive in identifying local stakeholders and organizations not familiar with the Los Angeles homeless services delivery system; and educating these entities in those matters.
Organize local community support for initiatives and projects advancing the goal of providing stable housing for people experiencing homelessness.
Familiarization with the interplay and understanding of the multiple government jurisdictions in Los Angeles.
Build and enhance relationships with partners and other stakeholders
Represent LAHSA at external community meetings as an active participant and contributor
Perform other duties as assigned
Point In Time Homeless Count
Work with communities, municipalities, relevant public-sector entities, and other local stakeholders (neighborhood councils, health care providers, faith-based organizations) to coordinate the recruitment of volunteers and staff for the annual Point In Time Homeless Count (“homeless count”);
Plan, assign, train, and direct the local work leading to a successful homeless count across deployment sites countywide.
Oversee and track volunteers, working in partnership with stakeholders such as Council of Governments and homeless coalitions, elected officials, and other key partners;
Support post-count activities to ensure completion of data collection, analysis, and reporting; and,
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge and/or experience with the Los Angeles homeless services delivery system; and the different government jurisdictions across the County of Los Angeles (municipal, county, state, and federal).
Preference will be given to applicants with a background in community planning, organizing and strong leadership experience.
Candidates will have a high level of comfort with technology and social media; strong organizational and administrative skills as well as strong attention to detail is critical.
Applicants must demonstrate strong public speaking skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of management, staff and external parties including elected office staff and homeless individuals.
Must have excellent time management, project management skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
Must be willing to attend evening and weekend events.
The position will require significant extended hours during the critical moments prior to the Homeless Count; use of a smart phone, and regional travel is required.
Candidate must have a valid California driver license and access to an insured vehicle. Mileage for travel in fulfillment of job responsibilities will be reimbursed.
Must be able to competently use Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), Facebook, Twitter. Knowledge of Microsoft Project and Nation Builder is preferred.

Proven professional experience and educational background.
Schedule
The Chief Executive Officer or designee may change the schedule of positions between remote, hybrid and onsite, as necessary to accomplish LAHSA's business needs.
