Innovation starts from the heart. At Edwards, we put patients first. We invest a significant proportion of our revenue towards research and development to drive and develop groundbreaking medical innovations for structural heart disease and critical care. As part of our R&D Engineering team, you will work closely with our Quality and Manufacturing teams to develop the latest tools and technologies to address significant, unmet clinical needs that impact patients’ lives around the world.
This is an exciting opportunity with the Advanced Technology team currently involved in cutting edge packaging design & development leveraging applied research in design, materials and modeling. As a Senior Designer you will work closely with engineers to develop world-class capabilities and provide a competitive advantage to Edwards, through packaging design including component e.g. thermoform trays, injection molded parts, pouches and shelf & shipper boxes. You will transform engineering specifications and designs to finished 2-D and 3-D CAD files for new product development packaging and products, e.g., tooling /fixtures, detailed assembly and drawings.
You will make an impact by….
- Creating new complex designs or modifying existing design utilizing parametric solid modeling software (Creo & SolidWorks) or other applications to develop basic data
- Advising the engineering team on geometric dimension and tolerance, critical dimensions of the design, and alerting the engineers to potential issues with regard to the fabrication processes (thermoform, injection molding, 3D modeling)
- Assessing viability of complex engineering specifications/concepts, advising engineers on suggested revisions, or creating new designs, for designs of major components or major portions of functional assemblies to meet product/manufacturing specifications, utilizing parametric solid model equipment to develop basic data, layouts of complex assemblies and detailed parts of devices, sketches, mechanisms, and structures.
- Establishing design functionality: ease of manufacturing, availability of materials and equipment, reliability, performance, safety and contractual specification requirements and cost; including recommending alternates and solutions needed to achieve the intended design objective.
- Identifying design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers throughout the validation process.
- Maintaining integrity of the CAD PDM (Product Data Management) modeling software.
- Processing formal Engineering Change Requests including providing corresponding technical justification; checking completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications; and ensuring accuracy of calculations and dimensioning and notes necessary to present design proposals.
- Presenting proposed designs across all affected internal and external functions to secure consensus on the design viability and functionality.
- Advising engineering team of developments in Edwards drawing standards and CAD tools.
- Being knowledgeable with various materials (e.g. PETG, HIPS, PC, PS, Delrin, ABS, PEEK) used in thermoforming, injection molding, and machining fabrication process.
- Good understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) concepts and principles
What you’ll need:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent in related field with 10 years related experience is required
- CAD Certification in related program certification
- Proven expertise in usage of CAD (Creo, Solidworks, AutoCAD, CAD PDM) and MS Office Suite
- Sheet metal experience is a must
What else we look for:
- Problem solving methodology, tolerance analysis, and GDP (Good Documentation Practices)
- Experience designing thermoform trays, tools and fixtures
- Injection molding experience
- Parametric solid models & Model Based Definitions
- Medical device industry experience preferred
- Experience working with Windchill & IGNITE (data management system) is preferred
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must have a high level of independent thinking and initiative
- Work well independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant drafting standards (ANSI, etc.) also required.

COVID Vaccination Requirement
Edwards is committed to complying with the requirements and guidance from our government authorities and to protecting our vulnerable patients and the healthcare providers who are treating them around the world. As such, all Healthcare Interacting positions require COVID-19 vaccination, which includes anyone who directly interfaces with patients and those who interact with healthcare providers as part of their role. If hired, as a condition of employment, you will be required to submit proof that you have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, unless you request and are granted a medical or religious accommodation for exemption from the vaccination requirement. This vaccination requirement does not apply in countries where it is prohibited by law to impose vaccination. In countries where vaccines are less available, or other requirements exist, we may institute alternate measures that optimize patient safety and healthcare provider safety, which may include regular COVID testing or specific masking requirements.
